Great work Eugene! I sure wasn't in the mood for hill repeats after this hard ride.

    Date of Ride: 4/28/2012
Name of organized ride or route: L'Étape du California
    Actual Mileage: 100.4 mi
    Ride Time: 7:08
    Total Time: 8:14
    Altitude Climbed: 11,214 ft
Ride Synopsis: Fun ride. Tough, but not an ordeal like last Saturday. It was pretty hot on the switchbacks, but thankfully they had water at the Azusa aid station this year. Was leap-frogging with Floyd Landis throughout the ride (he was just out cruising and enjoying the day with his friends), and at the last aid station I thanked him for reminding me to enjoy the ride. I was so wrapped up in beating my time last year, that I was making myself miserable. Not sure, but I think I was 7 minutes slower--about 6:42 to the lifts, but I believe this ride was also 3 miles longer than last year's route. Still waiting for the l'Etape results. A really, really enjoyable day with lots of friends out and familiar faces.

Looks like the results focus only on the KOM challenge sections , but it looks like I finished 143rd overall, (146th last year):

Weather conditions: Foggy through Santiago Canyon. Sun broke through as we left San Clemente. Awesome tailwind up SART.

Synopsis of Ride: Needed to get April's century in so we chose a route through Santiago Canyon to Kaylani Coffee in San Clemente. Gotta love coffee shops that have gels for sale. We returned via SART and its lovely tailwind.

Ride Time: 6:18 to summit, Another hour & a half back down the mountains to Redlands
Total Time: 7:59 (farted around at Onyx Summit for a long time
    Altitude Climbed: 11,791 ft
Ride Synopsis: Fewf! Third tough century in as many weekends. Going to rest a little now and start building up a little better training base. Super fun ride! Met jmX at the start, then Bored117 on Oak Glen grade, then saw Lesper at the Ranger Station (and my sweet girlfriend who filled my bottle & gave me hugs & kisses, despite my being sweaty & boogery. Also saw EugeneK on the flat roads east of Moreno Valley, but we'd finally gotten a good head of steam at that point and I didn't want to bail on my group at that point.
Oak Glen wasn't as steep as I was fearing--I don't think it ever got past 10% at the steepest; and Damnation Alley was even more beautiful and delightful to ride than I was expecting. (I've motorcycled up that way several times, but this was my first time pedaling.)
Made a couple of mistakes; tried peanut butter & banana sandwich for breakfast and had terrible gas all day (Sorry Bored117, haha), and despite eating two Clif bars and two packages of Shot-blocks, bonked a little about 4-5 miles from the summit. Ran into Triplebutted on his steel bike at that point. So far, the only pre-race breakfast that seems to be agreeing with me is pasta or rice. Everything else results in gas or GI distress.
The other mistake I made was drinking too much water! Despite sweat pouring off me continually, I had to stop 3 times on the ascent to pee, and peed clear all three times.
It really is a spectacular ride, which I'll be doing again soon, and next year.

Weather conditions: Under cover of marine layer for the morning climbs in Whittier. By the time I got to Irvine the sun had broken through and the ugly onshore flow made things painful.

Synopsis of Ride: I wanted to string together some tough climbs: Rose Hills Memorial Park, Turnbull Canyon, Oak Canyon to Descending Dr (OUCH), Belle River Dr and southbound Imperial / Cannon from Santa Ana Canyon Rd. It was tempting to bail out but I'm glad I stuck it out and did all the climbs I wanted to, and got a century ride out of it to boot.

Ride Synopsis: Was sick the whole week. Didn't recover but went in anyways to get the KoM jersey. Done and dealt with. It was... a meh ride. Don't think I will do it again. Maybe double is a little better. Not as many volunteers, not as many riders, not as many SAG, etc. BBQ at the end was great though!

Weather conditions: Started cool but warmed up as the sun came out. Lunch break at Seal Beach was chilly with a strong onshore flow which made for a tiring ride from Santa Fe Dam to Seal Beach but a wicked fast run up SGRT to Coyote Creek.

Synopsis of Ride: Having completed my century for the month I accompanied my riding partners on their monthly century. We thought to do the entire SGRT from top to bottom and adding in some short climbs at the beginning for fun.

Adding a couple of events I've completed this year.

    Date of Ride: 3/10/12

    Type of Ride: Organized century
Name of organized ride or route: Solvang century
    Actual Mileage: 106.3
    Ride Time: 7:18
    Total Time: 10:06
    Altitude Climbed: 5100 ft
Weather conditions: COLD in the morning, beautiful after the fog burned off. Strong headwind for a good portion of the second half of the route.
Synopsis of Ride: My first century, not sure entirely what to expect but made it through just fine. Made some friends along the way and enjoyed the beauty of the wine country. Forgot to turn on my computer after a rest stop and went 6 miles before realizing such; wanted to finish with 100+ on the clock so I rode around a few extra miles after finishing the course

    Date of Ride: 6/2/2012

    Type of Ride: Organized century
Name of organized ride or route: Ojai Valley Century
    Actual Mileage: 100.4
    Ride Time: 7:04
    Total Time: 9:19
    Altitude Climbed: 4800 ft
Weather conditions: Fairly chilly start but a nice marine layer for most of the morning, WARM in the afternoon climbing back into the Ojai Valley.
Synopsis of Ride: Very scenic ride through beautiful areas including Ojai/Montecito/Ventura/Oxnard. Very nice SAG support and friendly volunteers. Signage along the route could use improvement.

    Actual Mileage: 101.10 mi
    Ride Time: 6:59
    Total Time: 7:32
    Altitude Climbed: 9325 ft
    Weather: Warm and nice.
Ride Synopsis: Ride was great! Actually, I woke up at the time I planned to start riding... Ended up starting the ride an hour later than planned. Instead of typical breakfast ended up having a single energy bar. Didn't get to hydrate myself properly before start, etc. Wanted to catch up couple of friends who started earlier so I ended up cutting my time on rest stops to minimum (okay... still over 33 minutes I see... well man's gotta eat) as well as burning a little too matches early in the ride. The road condition up the 330 was good. I just wish the shoulders were a little wider. There were few annoyed drivers who made some dangerous maneuvers on tight corners (not on me but people in front of me). Rest stops were well stocked, friendly cheering crowd, view was wonderful, lunch at end was good! Probably will do again next year and wake up on time...

    Date of Ride: 6/9/12
Name of organized ride or route: Ride Around the Bear
    Actual Mileage: 101.0 mi
    Ride Time: 8:31
    Total Time: 9:51
    Altitude Climbed: 9850 ft
Weather: cool the first 15 miles, warm and nice most of the way, a bit cooking the last 15 miles

That should bring my total up to 5, though it depends on how strictly you apply the definition of a "century".

    Altitude Climbed: approx. 1900ft
Weather conditions: Started cool but warmed up as the sun came out.

Synopsis of Ride: 8th century of the year. Wanted to try the LA River Ride because I wouldn't otherwise ride the LA River on my own. My suspicions were confirmed. The amount of graffiti on the northern part of the southern section of trail is more than I've seen on the SGRT, SART, Rio Hondo and Coyote Creek trails combined. Other than the unnerving scenery, the ride was well supported and the course was well marked. I don't regret doing the ride, but i doubt I'll be back.

Weather conditions: Slightly foggy and overcast at the start until climbing up Hwy 33, breaking out into the sun but still cold wind the whole way.
Synopsis of Ride: This was my second consecutive ToTF, I finished slightly faster than last year. I suffered from asthma for most of the way and was chased by two dogs. This was a really great ride! Seriously! This ride is challenging, remote, low traffic (except Hwy 126) and generally a great way to spend a Saturday. I didn't even have any problems with drivers on Bouquet Cyn this year.

    Ride Time: 6:12
    Total Time: 6:34
    Altitude Climbed: 3859 ft
    Weather: Warm.
Ride Synopsis: Weather was good, was a little nervous around SART (with all the muggings, etc..) I probably worried for nothing though as there were plenty of cyclist around. There seemed to be a organized ride in SART (which surprised me). Some very inconsiderate riders, etc which made the trail not the safest around.
Everything was good until I hit 100 mile mark... still had 1000ft of climbing left but I bonked... I think I got too used to supported century with plenty of food available.

    Actual Mileage: 300 miles
    Ride Time: NA
    Total Time:approx 23:45 approximate
    Altitude Climbed: approx. 9,000 ft
Weather conditions: Although rain was in the forecast the day was quite clear and sunny with mostly mild sea breezes
Synopsis of Ride:The Grand Tour is always well organized and efficient. Started at 5:15 and rode the first 100mi fast. The on-shore breeze picked up enough that I had to pedal all the way down the descent from Ojai back to Ventura. I had my first flat at Hope Ranch and two more after dark on the trip back down PCH near Pt Dume. My pump packed-in so I called in the SAG, and two of my friends, Chris and David, both came to my aid. I booted the tire, the source of the flats, and got back on the road to the finish. My Garmin Edge 705 worked like crap and of course doesn't have enough endurance for these longer rides, so I had have no recorded data for much of the ride.

Synopsis of Ride: Ninth 100-miler of the year. Accompanied a riding partner of mine who needed to complete his century ride for June. We set out with an initial goal of holding a 20 mph moving average but as the ride went along it became apparent that we could nail down a total average of 20 mph if we held pace. We were able to do so and both of us completed our first five hour (including all stops) century rides.

Synopsis of Ride: Tenth century for 2012 is in the books. Introduced a friend to Santiago Canyon and explored a route from Cook's Corner to Dana Point. Did this century after completing the Rapha Rising / Strava climbing challenge so the legs were a little tired but felt better as the ride went along.

    Date of Ride: 8/4/2012
Type of Ride: Tour de Big Bear
    Actual Mileage: 97 miles
    Ride Time: 5h 43m
    Total Time: 6h 12m
    Altitude Climbed: approx. 7600 ft

Weather conditions: Cool mountain morning giving way to partly cloudy skies. Got drenched by a rain shower at mile 90 but it was rather nice opposed to being baked by the mountain sun.

Synopsis of Ride: Tour de Big Bear is my eleventh century for 2012. I had never climbed to Onyx Summit before so for some strange reason I decided to do a ride that summits it twice. Finished 35th overall for the century and climbed well today.

Weather conditions: Rode under overcast skies until Del Mar. It was misty for most of the south OC portion of the ride but it was nice compared to the heat.

Synopsis of Ride: My 12th century of the year involved joining a friend's 3rd annual birthday ride to San Diego. First ride to SD using my Garmin 800 so we tried a route that avoided heavy traffic spots. I was happy to set a PR on Torrey Pines and I was pleasantly surprised by discovering the Laurel St hill on my way to my hotel.

Synopsis of Ride: Recovery ride after breaking my collarbone in a fall on 7/21/12 during a 200k brevet. This was the flattest local DIY century I could think of - west through the Antelope Valley to Hwy 138, Gorman Post Rd (Old Ridge Route), over Tejon Pass and down to Lebec. The return was the same. Hot weather but some cloud cover made it better.

Type of Ride: Temecula Valley Century
    Actual Mileage: 101 miles
    Ride Time: 5h 44m
    Total Time: 8h 34m
    Altitude Climbed: approx. 9200 ft

Weather conditions: It was a brisk start but it quickly got very HOT. 95F by the time mid-day rolled around.

Synopsis of Ride: Century #13 is in the books. First time riding in Temecula and the scenery was as nice as advertised. Rolling terrain made for a lot of cumulative climbing. They had three chip-timed climbs that made things interesting. Coupled with the heat this was a very tough ride, but it was a fun, well supported and interesting ride.

Synopsis of Ride: From Palmdale down Soledad Cyn to Santa Clarita, up Sand Cyn to Bear Divide and up the access rd to Camp 9 fire station. Return by the reciprocal route.
