Visiting San Diego
I've just finished booking my family vacation to San Diego and now I need to plan how I'm going to cycle out there. I'll be staying at La Costa Resort. What I'd like is the name of a decent place to rent a road bike and some suggestions for some decent riding based out of the resort. We're going for a full week and I'm hoping to get 2-3 good riding days where I can do 50+ mile loops.
Thanks for any suggestions

I live about two blocks up the hill from the La Costa resort and I can tell you that the riding here is superb. Weather ain't too bad either.
B&L in Solana Beach rents decent bikes.
And click here for some excellent ride suggestions.

How's that basket stay on the motorcycle at speed? That's crazy! Does your dog have a little helmet and goggles?

It's a magnetic bed that sticks to the gas tank. We don't go on the freeways, just puttputt around town. (Sometimes with my Ma's dog too.)
She doesn't like goggles, so I just get larger windshields on my bikes. Been riding with me for more than a decade and never been hurt and her eyes are still great for a 14-year-old dog.

You definitely picked the right place to stay. La costa resort is B E A U T I F U L. If your into golf, I suggest bringing your clubs as well.
As previously mentioned B & L bikes in solana beach rents some pretty good bikes, as far as riding is concerned anything north and south along the 101 is going to be
absoloutely gorgeous. Have fun!

You have a ton of options with 50 mile loops. Since you'll be in La Costa, look into inland North County loops - San Pasqual Valley, Lake Wohlford Road (if you like hills) and the Valley Center area, although that may bring you a bit out of the 50-mile range.
Some roads in these areas are like mecca to me. The Woods Valley Road stretch is one of my favorites.

Forgot to mention Del Dios Highway (don't let the name intimidate you) and Rancho Santa Fe is good riding also.
