Susanna Schick - Victim of apparent road rage in DTLA this weekend.

According to the victim’s own words from her hospital bed, relayed by her friend Jennifer Beatty, the incident started on Spring Street between 2nd and 3rd — just half a block from the new LAPD headquarters — when the driver reportedly swerved across two lanes of traffic and into the bike lane where she was riding.

They exchanged words at the next traffic light until the female passenger rolled up her window; once the light changed, the car continued to chase her down 1st Street along Downtown’s new green bike lane.

After that, her memory is foggy; she remembers an “inexplicable extreme wobble” of bike — apparently a result of her bike being rammed from behind — then nothing until the paramedics woke her up just past 4th Street, face down on the pavement and unable to move.

Just disgusting. And scary to think that if it wasn't for some friends who are well-known in the LA bike scene getting the word out on Twitter, that this may have forgotten. It's not even clear if the police filed a report.

Get better, pinkyracer.

Hopefully LAPD responded and that the officer filed the appropriate reports, and that they eventually lead to an arrest and conviction of the driver. I am very sorry to hear about this incident and I hope that Suzanna recovers quickly and completely. I echo your thoughts weshigh.

Get better, pinkyracer!

My worst fears about the Susanna Schick collision were realized today.

Despite being run down by a road raging driver just blocks from LAPD headquarters, the police were never notified that a cyclist was lying facedown in the street for upwards of 15 minutes Friday night.

Or if they were notified, they never responded.

And no police report was ever filed.

I spoke with a reporter from the L.A. Times Tuesday morning, who mentioned that he’d been calling the police all morning. And everyone he spoke with said this was the first they’d heard of the hit-and-run road rage collision that put Susanna Schick in the ICU with a concussion and multiple fractures.

Absolutely horrifying.

KABC 7 in LA had this story on their 11pm broadcast last night, but I can't locate the video on their website.

I was leaving work today when I heard briefly on the radio that "there was never a contact between car and cyclist" it was mentioned also that a police car was behind the "perpetrator" and witnessed no such thing??

As a cyclist I can tell however that "wheel wobble" is rarely experienced and pretty much only at a high rate of speed.

Where did all her serious injuries come from? I don't believe for a second they are from "falling off a bike". If I fell off my bike..yes, I'd be injured but not serious. Come on. She has major issues...how did she get so hurt??? Something is missing here.

Yeah, there has been a lot of changing stories and misinformation. The latest from LAPD say she was going 30MPH!! when she crashed. Even though she was just at a stop light. According to her, her cycle meter was showing 18mph and then down to 0 when she crashed. There is also video of the car swerving into the bike lane at the start of the incident.

I've heard conflicting info also, including someone saying that the police never came to the hospital.

It's entirely possible to fall and crash on your own if you're scared that someone is going to run you down and you see them swerving purposefully (or even without purpose but not in this case) into your space. I don't say bike lane bc one isn't required. Either way, this driver is at fault for causing it. Geez. The whole thing sounds awful. I'm glad she's alive.
