Just rode it today for the first time in quite a while. The old / existing path seemed like it was in perfectly good shape with some spots that needed maintenance. Rode through today and the new path is narrower (too narrow to ride side by side on one side) and less smooth and the lines look like they were laid down by a largely intoxicated crew (although to be fair they followed the asphalt profile perfectly)

Meanwhile the part of the path that bypasses the street & sidewalk is apparently unfinished. I think that part would be much more useful.

I just think it's odd how our broke state/cities spend money, that's all. Generators running and powering lights with nobody there (in broad daylight) speaks of clear fiscal responsibility to me although I don't know the nature of the contract and who's paying for the lights.

Some day I want to ride from my house in Downey to my sister's in Corona (15 & 91). I guess this is one of the few (if only) routes?

I'm 99% sure they moved the trail because they're laying some huge pipes down and will be tearing up sections of the old trail. Could be prep for the 91 expansions too, I dunno. Either way you can see they've got pipes sticking out of the ground now so something is going on. They arent just updating it for fun, and if they were I suspect they would have simply laid down new tarmac on the existing path.

They're leaving the light on at the temporary tight turn because somebody who isn't paying attention and is lawsuit happy could get hurt and cost the city millions rather than the thousand or so in gasoline it takes to run the generator.

Wondered about that SART section. Let's say... I got off work late... I missed my last leg of train... only way home (other than getting ride from someone or calling cab) is for me to ride to home... And portion of it is impossible to cross unless using SART from Yorba Linda to Green River. Do they close actually close that gate at night or something? I hope it doesn't happen in that manner but I am okay for riding the distance typically...

No idea why they are doing it or how they found the money to pay for it out of the tight budgets, but I am happy for the new sections that are nice and smooth! Why is the drinking fountain by the bridge turned off now?

Just be glad that it's WAY better than it was in 95'ish. Sheesh, old moto cross track, horses, nothing but sand, dirt and thorns.

Well, the laying pipe reason makes sense. Oddly, they've already torn up sections of the NEW path and repaved it (poorly) for piping.

I was in San Diego in 95 - didn't care about Orange County back then.

I still wish they'd fix the path behind the shops there - I don't really like riding on that sidewalk.
