I plan on dong 70-85 Mile ride this weekend.

I want to go from Green River to PCH via Sart, hang a left at PCH Around Back Bay and back to SART. What is the best or easiest way to get back from SART from BackBay.
Would kind of like to go through some of those nice climbs off of San Joaquin and Shady Canyon.. Thanks in advance.

After you hit those climbs off San Joaquin and Shady Canyon, the best way back to SART is via PCH. That's just my opinion. There are other ways through Costa Mesa/Santa Ana. But I wouldn't choose those routes myself...

PCH kinda sucks on that stretch, and its gonna be warm at the beach this weekend so expect lots of traffic. From SART->Superior you can be on the huge wide sidewalk, and from that point forward the sidewalk gets small so you'll probably want to be on the road. However, the sidewalk is LEGAL to ride on if you want (there are signs), its just probably more dangerous than riding on the road. Tons of blind driveways, people walking, etc.

I just get in with traffic and haul ass for the 1-2 miles so I'm not slowing cars down.

I find going back up SART after riding down and then thru back bay and shady canyon is really monotomous and boring and makes it hard for me to complete the last 30 miles. I usually after looping around back bay I head up the mountains to sea trail and jump off at university which turns into Jeffery rd. I take that Portola Pkwy, left to Jamboree, up jamboree turn left on Santiago Canyon and then right on Cannon. Cannon turns into Imperial Hwy, which hits the SART near Yorba Park. Kinda confusing the way I explained it but I don't have a Garmin to show you guys a link but it's really pretty simple if you look on google maps and all the roads have nice wide bike lanes for the most part.

Returning on SART, you might run into Mr Beanz and Gina. That would make your return trip to Green River a bit more interesting. Besides its easy with that tail wind. Just don't drink the water at that restroom facility on Katella.

This works pretty good other than short stretch (less than a mile) of no bike path. If you are used to riding with traffic it does work great. (been taking same route for my commute from Irvine to Riverside in order to avoid SART on not so friendly section of it)

I'm thinking of either doing the entire lenght of sart with PCH back bay loop might get me the mielege, or starting further into sart and doing a bigger loop in OC. Either way, i'm starting early, hopefully 6AM so that I can be done by 11-12

Around 70 miles from yorba park but if you start at Green River it will be about 85.

Just went through above mentioned route again today... (my long commute route... when I feel like not taking train back)... Instead of going Jeffrey, you could go to Harvard which ends near a MUP... hop on MUP till Portola Pkwy is another option. (I use that MUP often when going to REI as well)... you can avoid some lights/stops doing it this way.

Awesome ride. Little drizzly when I hit the coast but not too bad. Had to loop around the backbay entrance several times as I didn't know I had to make a left onto backbay, but eventually found it. Also took me a while to find University but eventually found it. I'll say it again, you guys in theOC have it good. That stretch from Backbay to Cannon was awsome. (I did curse TJClay a couple of times on some of those 10 and 11 % sections. It was awsome though.
My Garmin was going bonkers. I accidentally left it on last night so It calculated my total time into the ride. and shut off a few times, so I think it cut about 5 miles from the ride. Also, the "real" housewives of OC were out in full affect this morning.

I'm tie'd up moving to a new place for the next 2-3 weeks but after that we should do a group ride from Yorba Park to the coast on SART and back on that route. (I know a couple ways to bypass those tougher grades!)

Yeah... I live in Riverside which is actually quite cycling friendly... but nothing compared to OC... especially Irvine. Can't recommend Santa Ana side of OC though. Gave it whirl about a week ago trying different metrolink stations. Got honked 4 times in 1 hour of ride with one occasion where a honker was trying to door me (as passenger swung door open from moving vehicle... I was able to dodge it... chase him down... handed him printed out copy of driving regulation... which was littered out shortly. I will if I need to but I rather climb 10-11%+ grade than having to deal with some of these less than desirable elements of society.
