Anyone ridden Mt. Hollywood Drive in Griffith Park Recently?

Just wondering about the road conditions, traffic, etc. And is it safe for solo riders around 6:30 to 8 am?

I was on it this morning and usually ride 2-3 times a week on parts of it around 6:30-7am. The section of it I ride on is closed to cars and goes from the top of the travel town hill towards the Griffith Observatory. I ride it by myself all the time and have no problems. Road is a little rough in places, but nothing horrible.

I used to ride that stretch at night all the time about 3 or 4 years ago. No problems.

You could easily kill yourself desceding on several corners of that "road". I suggest a 10 mph scout ride in full daylight.

All the time. Safe. 100%. Like all roads you have to pay attention to what you're doing and you'll be fine.

Today, saw a half dozen coyotes and one rattlesnake.

Do it man.

From the bowling alley parking lot on Riverside we used to do weekly nite rides up to the observatory. You will occasionally run into deer and coyotes. Merider was the ride leader. That was 5 years ago.
It's still very safe.

I'm usually huffing & puffing by the time I get to the top of Travel Town hill, but Mt Hollywood is on my list to add to the mix.

We have a team ride out there every Wed night. Never a problem! Seen more rattlers though. Use GP as a pass through 3x a week with the bike path and never a problem as well.

if you get tired and want to take a breather just saunter over into the bushes and you can usually get a free BJ from another man (if you are a man)

LAPD did a big clean up some time last year. The trollers aren't really out as much and same with Elyssian. It was pretty bad there for a while.

I never noticed anything. I hear this has been going on for years, now - but that it dropped off significantly after they banned parking on "dump truck hill." (It used to have a different informal name.)

Thanks for the heads up. I will no longer saunter over to the bushes to take a leak.

Its like that scene from "something about mary" haha.

The worst place I have ever seen though was the Urban cyclocross race at Ken Malloy park in harbor city. I went to ride the trails to warm up for the race and I saw at least 3 men waiting for a partner in the bushes. Two weeks after the race the cops did a sting and arrested about 50 men in 2 hours.

Funny clip. I can picture myself in my bicycle shorts and colorful Jersey trying to explain how I was not part of the festivities.
