Wasn't really sure where I wanted to go this morning, but knew I wanted to get some elevation change. Cruised up Sepulveda and part of Mulholland before heading back down into the Valley, and up Reseda and around Balboa lake a few times before heading home.

Now for beer & Lakers!

The portion that sprayed on my face and mouth tasted like Sprite.

I drove it first.

Going west, IE to OC, it looks like it might be rideable (on a weekend, in good weather) but not particularly pleasant. A mirror would be very helpful.

The first five miles are possibly the worst, going up switchbacks at a 5% grade, with only a narrow shoulder or no shoulder at all. Google Maps offers a detour up El Cariso Trail, it gets me straight to the top, but it's unpaved. Not sure which is worse.

Miles 5 to 12 are mostly downhill but still without any real shoulder. At mile 11.7 counting from the intersection with Grand Ave. in Lake Elsinore it crosses into Orange County and, from that point, it has a shoulder most of the way.

I've counted about three cars per minute going west.

rode with my brother JusRelax for my first SART visit. Busy busy on the SART, even though we went early. We went out like gangbusters (for us at least), and limped back in. Getting closer to my first metric century. The bugs on the way back were kinda annoying in areas. Dead ones all over my bike and myself by the time I got back, but overall fun ride!

On Saturday I was riding the Kern River Trail starting near Cal State Bakersfield and rode out and back going West. Mostly flat with asphalt path that's well maintained. On Sunday it was the town of Three Rivers just north of Lake Kaweah. Didn't ride much but just on Highway 198 called Sierra Drive.

Its true about the smog in Bakersfield. What a big difference from L.A/ O.C.

I rode from Downtown Long Beach to Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday via SGRT with a pretty heavy backpack (babysitting nephew sat/sun). Near the little ranches the bugs were so thick it felt like someone was flinging gravel at me. Wife almost barfed when she saw me in RC. Next time I'm rocking a hat or skully under the helmet. Bleh. Heater of a ride though.
