Ride of Silence - Parking for Irvine Event
My wife and I plan to participate in the Ride of Silence in Irvine on Wednesday, May 16. We will be driving from out of the area, we aren't very familiar with Irvine, and we would appreciate some tips on where to park our car. The one website we have found that seems to be dedicated to this ride does not have parking information, and there is no obvious contact information.
Google Maps shows parking at the civic center, but it may be restricted, and it may not be large enough for everyone who will attend. Google Maps also shows large residential areas on three sides of the civic center and a commercial area northwest of the civic center. Would these be good places to park? Are there parking restrictions there?
Any suggestions? Thanks!

There is alot of open parking at the Civic Center plus there is a Sports Park connected and right next door with lots of parking. No worries - many participates actually ride over to the start and leave their cars at home (like me). I would avoid (out of courtesy and respect) not parking in the residential areas. There is a Shopping Center in either direction on Barranca you can park in if need be.

Thanks for the tip!
I checked the Ride of Silence California Locations page a month ago, and I did it again just now. Irvine is still the closest location to our home near Beach Blvd and the 22 Fwy in Stanton. There's a ride listed in San Clemente and Pasadena, and those are the only other options that I saw anywhere near us.
No problem... we're planning to join the Irvine ride. If you see us on our gray Trek T900 tandem, please say "Hi"! We'll probably be wearing our matching red/gray/black jerseys (see our avatar).

I found a page specific to the Irvine ride. I think it had contact info. Let me see if I can find it again. I knew someone who is on the list of lost riders so I will be in attendance.

What's interesting is that the second site listed is less specific to the Irvine ride but has email contact info. But you have a link to this already listed so maybe the contact info wasn't good. But, Pam is right on about the parking. Here's another link in case it's of interest.

The first site is run by the founder of the Ride of Silence, Chris Phelan, with whom I had the great pleasure to share a dinner while at the League of American Bicyclists National Summit this year. That site is typically used just to find minimal information while other site, like Bill Sellin's, give all the details.

Bill has been an original member of BCI and one of the founding fathers since its inception. The Irvine Ride of Silence was started by Bill and I am glad to see the City of Irvine is now actively participating and offering up the Civic Center for Ride Start. We used to start at Deerfield Park. Info@bikeirvine.org is a direct link to Mr. Sellin.
If one has not participated in the Ride, it is quite sobering. I have been personally injured and also lost a dear friend in an accident. Notice all the armbands you see. Puts things in perspective. Another thing.... be safe out there. Motorists are still clueless even with a mile long string of riders to contend with and also, its not a race... expect to ride slowly and with cautious. Lots of different levels of riders participate...some not so steady on the road!
Take care and thanks for the support!
