So, I took my recently purchased road bike for a spin down PCH from the pier to Warner, which is a pretty good amount for me. On the way back between Seapoint and Goldenwest, I thought I bursted a tube and was bouncing all over the place, but no, it was the bike lane! I am sure a lot of you do this route often, but how are you supposed to have feeling in your hands after going through that patchy stretch? I wear gloves and have thick grips, but I got home and my hands were still numb! I guess with the new composite bike frames, this area is not too bad, but for a newbie on a road bike, holy heck!!!

Part of it may be the road, but also much of your experience is based on how tightly you are holding the bars.

Use a grip that is as loose and relaxed as possible, while still allowing you to keep control of the bars. Sounds like you were using a death grip on that section of road.

Assuming you have drop handlebars, it also helps to alternate your hand position from time to time (brake hoods, top of the bars, drops). That will help to keep the blood flowing to your hands and prevent numbness.

After you past Golden West, did it still seem jumpy? Or did you turn left into Golden West at that point?

Grip was actually super loose because of all the vibration, I couldn't keep a firm grip if I tried.

I've been actually switching up between all those positions. I guess I must be the only person thinking this is a rough stretch of road, but I did come from 28c tires to 25c tires so this may have just been a new experience.

I turned onto Goldenwest because I didn't know how the rest of PCH was going to feel, and reading the story a couple of threads below and seeing the ghost bike live was enough for me to take the other route back home.
