Looking for reasonable wheel building
Do any of you have a recommendation of a shop / individual who builds wheels at a reasonable price? I live in Orange County and have been experimenting with different rear hubs on an old balloon tire bike, consequently I've had several wheels built lately. Shops have been inconsistent in what they charge; sometimes the guy who answers the phone quotes one price and then the guy at the counter tries to charge a different price. Others won't quote a price, they'll say, "around a buck and a quarter per spoke and around $40 per hour". Then there are those who quote a price, but it's $100... too much in my opinion. I've paid from $30 to $65 including spokes, I'd like to find someone to do it for somewhere between those two prices.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Try Jensen USA in Corona. They have built several wheels for me and I like the result.
