4-th of July cool GMR ride (weather wussy special)

There was some talk about riding GMR on the 4-th. What happened? Did you all retire from the big sport? Genaro, Jan Feetz, cdp8? I see Beanz is back on the bike, but probably still not fully recovered from that spider fight.
OK, I'm going. Start 8:00 AM from the Glendora High School parking lot. The weather should be perfect for all of you weather wussies who start melting 15 minutes after being pulled away from your ACs. I believe the road will be closed for cars, so that's an additional incentive. Who is in?

I plan on doing it, but I'm probably going to have a much earlier start. As slow as I am I'm sure you'll pass me along the way. So when you see a fat guy on a Cannondale, wave hi.

If I go I'll be towing up a 70lb double wide trailer. Still not sure how safe descending might be though.

Dude, so now if I ride my Cannondale everybody's gonna wave at me!

I hope to go, have a few friends from every corner of the world that have brought it up. If I can talk Gina up I'll go but as always, we'll be the last ones up the hill. More than likely to the shack since Gina hasn't got much saddle time and my spider fight really took a lot out of me.

I have no idea of what time we'll get out there as nothing has yet been arranged with several friends wanting to go. One thing for sure, we'll be with the slow group.

At least a couple of us leaving from Encanto Park around 630 - 645.
Def not speed demons but we're ready to beat the heat.

Can't imagine riding gmr with Beanz, that'd be like getting a tour of Vatican from the Pope.

I'll be going up, and haven't ridden in 2 1/2 weeks, so I'll be making my way up pretty slow too. I'll probably get to the base sometime between 7 and 8 am; hope to see some of you on the way up! Only up to the shack for me.

It's a holiday so there is no riding fast. If you see us, be sure to stop for at least a quick hello.

I doubt anyone will confuse my climbing skills with yours.

I'll probably head out from my house around 6:30. I'm around 5 miles from the gate so I should beat most of the heat.

That was like 20 years ago. Don't be surprised if you drop me! Good idea starting early with the heat. Headng up GMR about 7 am is not bad since much of the first section (toughest imo) is shaded with the sun in the east.

I'll be riding with JusRelax, haven't ridden in 2 weeks, but I got a work shift in the afternoon, so I got no choice but move at a good speed for me. Will be at the base between 7 and 8.

White Windsor Fens and I'll be sporting my Kung Fu Panda Jersey

How long is the ride typically? Trying to see if I can squeeze a ride in before family stuff.

Going to shack? If you are JMX, probably 30 minutes to get there, and whatever to go back down.
If you are me (been riding for a year now, average 16-17 on flats) 50 minutes to the shack and whatever to get down.

If you start from the Glendora High School, you've got about 10 miles to the shack. These are 10 uphill miles at an avg. grade of about 5%. After the shack you've got another 11 miles to Cow Saddle which are mainly up but with some significant downhills. The main difficulty is about 3.5 mile hill with an average grade of about 6-7% (I'd say this is about 14 miles into the ride). After Cow Saddle you've got one steep downhill to get to the village. I plan to stop at the post office to refill water. The total mileage from the high school to the post office is about 22 miles. An average recreational rider should be able to make it in about 2.5 hours. The return is a bit easier but still takes about 1.5 hours to get back, so I'd budget a total of 4 hours. If you return through Claremont, you'll probably need less than 1 hour to get back to the high school.

8 is a bit late to start for me. I'm also trying to get back the form I've lost since the KOM wrapped up, so I'm thinking of parking at West Fork (Cogswell Dam), heading out Azusa Canyon, west on Sierra Madre, over GMR to East Fork, reload at my car and head up to the Crystal Lake Cafe. That should be about 63mi and over 6300ft of climbing.

Hopefully, I will see some of you on GMR. I be on a seven and wearing a Black Dog Tavern jersey, which for some reason is red and cream colored.

As much as I want to do this I may ride Lytle Creek instead. I have to save some time for cooking. If I wasnt riding from my house and back it wouldnt be an issues but where is the fun in taking a car.

I'll be heading up, hopefully starting from George Manooshian Park around 7:30 or so. I'll wear my BF 50+ jersey and either the Trek triple, (if I can get the derailleurs adjusted today), or the blue/black/white Pinarello. Goal is the village, but it will be a slow ride. If on the triple, might try for the ski lifts.

That's the most desorganized ride I've ever organized. I love it!
Looking forward to see you guys tomorrow. Say "hi" if you see me. I'm the easiest to recognise - no helmet (no shoes, no shirt and I still get service ).

I will try to leave the High School about 6:45 -7:00 and ride at least to the Cow Saddle. Look for a Riverside Bike club Jersey.
