Where are you riding this weekend ? 08/04-05
Sunday, I'm thinking about riding from my house in Fontana to GMR, shack and back. About 72 miles. Early, early morning start, if anyone wants to ride along.

It depends if I get cleats or not; if so, I'll be up in the Heights above La Habra. If not, I'll be putzing around the flatlands of La Habra.

I'm doing the same thing... heading up SGRT Sunday morning, meeting some peeps at the base of GMR at 7 am and then up to the shack and back. Should be about 72 miles. I've only gone up GMR about 4 times and never with less than fresh legs, should be interesting.

I'm riding Tour de Big Bear, so Onyx Summit from both sides plus a trip down (and back up) to/from Snow Valley.

If figure most are very concerned about making it. Not that we don't like you but if you go, you will be way ahead of us within a minute or two and none of us will catch you. This is the kind of first timers ride that gaurantees we won't be racing up to the lifts with one another. We'll be lucky if all make it to the shack.
It's a type of ride where we might stop every two miles to catch our breath so I'm thinking you'll be very bored or gone.
I'm figuring the 4 mph group will be the fast group on this ride.

I may join you on Sunday; not quite sure yet. If I don't reply to this thread by Saturday night with a more sure answer, then assume that I'm not going. If I do go, I'll probably meet you at the same typical meeting place that it seems everyone else is meeting at, and I'll do GMR up to shack and back down with you.

I will say this was planned as a real "first timers" ride. We have a small group of clydes and athenas wanting to try GMR for the first time. I'm going but have vowed to hang back with the last person up trying to encourage them up.

Plus, Beanz said he's riding to the shack no-handed, so there's that. He must be an amazing bike rider to be able to do that.

If anything, I'll hang around for a bit, simply for the commaraderie. Rides with the Beanz are always fun! I'll be pretty burned out from riding there and need to conserve gas for the ride back home. You've seen me fried in that situation that I didn't conserve in the past! : )

I'm definitely bringing a video recorder for this glorious occasion. Up and down to the shack with no hands! Wow!

Was great to meet the whole gang this morning. Was considering staying with the group, but I foresaw major heat, so since Genaro and I were planning on going up to Baldy Village, we booked it out of there. This was a tough ride for me; was glad to have Genaro as my partner today!

PS -- how did the no hands on the way up/down go Beanz?

I got lost in Camp Pendleton

The good part was that no one seemed to care that I was there. I think I saw more civilian contractors than military.

Nice meeting everyone on Sunday morning. Would have loved to hang back and ride, but had a long ride ahead of me and I knew the head would get me on the way home. Sounds l ike you guys had a blast though.
Here's my ride. Shack to the village was tough! JR pulled me most of the way up. Descent down Baldy road was fun and the rest of the ride home wasn't bad, regardless of the heat.

Nice to meet you, put a face to your name. When I get back into Village People shape, we'll do the ride together.
