buying a "fixie" in SoCal, Inland Empire area?

My nephew says he wants to buy a Fixie bike. Unable to talk him out of it (gears were invented for a reason!), I am forced to try and find a place to get one. Where does one go to buy a fixie? We live in Fontana, so something nearby would be nice. Thanks!

Craigs list.

Actually, the trek shop near me had some. Would he rather have a single speed? Fixies are... limiting.

Bikesdirect. Then support your local shop by taking it there and paying them the $60-$100 to assemble it. Total out the door price should be around $400-$500 and will be better than anything you can get in a shop or have them order.

Yeah, I talked to him just now about that. I think a single speed is more what he's looking for. Probably will try to get him a flip flop hub so he can try it either way.

Thanks, Spoonrobot, for the suggestion. We're trying to keep the whole thing under $250. I know that's pretty tough, even with the mail order/internet option, though. I support my LBS when I can, by the way. They do the service on my bikes that I can't manage on my own (fork shock service, rear hub overhaul, bottom brackets, etc.) and sometimes some supplies. Technically, JensonUSA is one of my LBSes and I order from them all the time.

Thanks for the help, guys. We ended up going to Performance bike and picking up a SE Bikes single-speed city bike.

Fontana and the surrounding are pretty flat, but he will be limited to Fontana and the surrounding area. Fixies are the current fashion statement, but if it gets him on a bike it isn't a bad thing, except that helmets are, unfortunately, counter to that whole fashion thing.
