Saturday morning, I'm riding North from C'bad up through P'ton to meet my Sweetheart and the OCRebels who are training for the upcoming Cool Breeze Century. I guess we're all having post-ride brunch at Anita's in O'side?
I'll be sporting the La Vie Claire colors and riding my new (to me) Look bike. Sure would love to see you guys, and Jimmy--I owe you a brunch or a few rounds of drinks for inviting me to the pizza party where I met her.

Heh heh... it's the lower one.

Couldn't believe what beautiful shape it was in for a bike more than 25 years old.

Nice. Love what you did with the bar tape and cages and I don't think that bike would have ever imagined in its wildest dream it would be sporting new Dura Ace wheels at the age of 25

They're departing Irvine Station at 9, so that's probably a good time to embark from down here to meet them somewhere between Pendleton and San Clem.
Probably swing by your place a little before 9:30--you game? You could be the Crip among Bloods in your NCCC jersey.

And I got Miss Fetta and I registered for Cool Breeze this morning, thanks to Mike! Wanna share a hotelroom up in Ventura, handsome?

Maybe. If I can, I'll be waiting in my driveway at 915. If I'm not there, have a good trip.

Cool. See you Sat morn if I see you then.
Alas, I am a blanket hog. And snore. And have jagged, yellow, old-man's toenails. And am prone to intestinal distress when crashing in unfamiliar environs. And looming over roommates in creepy fashion as they sleep...

If all goes according to plan I'll hit up GMR to the lifts Saturday for my first time in a long while. Won't be able to get out there until noon or 1pm, so it's gonna be a hot ride. Supposed to be 100 in at Baldy Village on Saturday.

Might want to push 9 and 1 on your phone, just to keep it ready...
And say Hi to any other semi-conscious lunatics (or hallucinations) you see up there from me.

I'm getting an early start on Saturday and heading up Hwy. 39 to the Crystal Lake Cafe and maybe Dawson Saddle if the storm clouds hold off to later in the day. I have to get back to the climb training. I'm going to ride up Haleakala at the end of September.

That's on my "to do" list before the end of the year. Maybe in spring

We were looking at going in early January, but the flights were really high. Flights from September up to Thanksgiving were over $200 cheaper. Lodging was also cheaper, so September it is. 36 miles and 10,023 feet. Long, but not terribly steep.

This website has great info to plan your assault:

http://www.chainreaction.com/haleakala.htm

Good luck and I'll do a RR when I get back, right after I finish the RR for the week of MTBing I did at the North Rim in June.

Nuts, just got a change of schedule from gf. They're worried about the heat and are now embarking from Irvine at 7:30. Therefore I'm embarking at 8. Sorry if that's too early GrumpyPig. Still love to ride with you if that's not too early.
I'll still roll by your driveway slowly on the way. Safe riding if I don't see you.

I'm Cool Breezing next weekend so debating how much riding to do this weekend - I was going to do a flat 80 or so on Sunday but this heat...

jmx - yer nvts. It's gonna be oven-hot. Maybe the lady at the convenience store will let you curl up in the ice cream freezer for 10 minutes when you get there.

We're doing Coolbreeze too! Keep an eye out for the indecently lucky guy in the La Vie Claire kit on the Look Bernard Hinault Equippe bike with the cute girl on the white & blue Felt.

Here's my pic from last year's CoolBreeze. Same kit, but different bike this year.

I'll try to cross Camp Pendleton without getting lost, go all the way through, and get out without climbing over any 6-foot fences. (Unlike my attempt last Sunday.)

I'm sure it's been answered 20 times before, but I'm too lazy to search: what's the best way to get from Camp Pendleton to SART with the objective to cross into Riverside County? Google sends me parallel to the 5 through Lake Forest and north Tustin, via Camino Capistrano -> Muirlands -> Trabuco -> Irvine -> Esplanade -> Santiago. I'd prefer to stay on PCH as much as possible, but it looks like it's not bike-friendly in places.

Here you go. Riding PCH through Laguna Beach is miserable and dangerous, but perhaps one of the OC regulars can tip you off on the less unpleasant route. I've tried it a few times, but got tired of the rapidfire stopsigns. Aside from Laguna Beach, the whole route's gravy. Just follow the Bike Route signs through suburban San Clemente.
Good luck and let us know how the ride goes.

Well, make sure you wear your fancy red dancing shoes. I saw that Look hanging on the wall with the eastons and had a momentary pang of extreme jealousy.

I think either that frame or the one you got both match your kit pretty well, maybe you should get both.

Red shoes aye, Cap'n! See you in Ventura! (But I'll be on the old steel Look; them wee Frenchmen don't bother makin' bikes big enough for us American behemoths anymore--I'd look like a shriner riding around on their XL [pft only 59cm c-t].)
