Poaching SD Bike the Bay?

I'm looking for info/experiences on how difficult it is to get across the Coronado Bridge without a bib during the Bike the Bay event in San Diego. Any and all help is appreciated.

Ditto. I can't imagine they're going to be able to control us all, since the event is sold out.
I'm planning on bringing a few event numbers from previous events and bringing the one with the matchingest color. (Keeping it in my jersey pocket and whipping it out if I get challenged.)
Bringing my own food & water though. Good luck to us!

Isn't Bike the Bay the biggest fundraiser of the year for the SDCBC, the people that lobby for more and better cycling infrastructure?

No idea. I'd've registered if I'd known about the event.
Good thing registration sold out and they maximized their revenue for the event, and that I'm carrying my own food & water.

Only problem is, this is the ONLY opportunity to ride bicycles on the Coronado Bridge. It's an argument both against and for banditting this sold-out event. Turns out Lauretta can't make it, so I might not bother after all. But I don't fault anyone who does. Mightn't hurt to donate to SDCBC.

Colored wrist bands are given out at check-in, and are not part of the pre-reg package. I did it last year, and there was a sizable crew, including law enforcement, checking them 100% at the bridge entrance ramp. I suspect that anyone blowing through will get similar treatment to people who blow through toll booths.

Good luck, but I wouldn't try it.

Huh, thanks for the info, CC. Guess I won't be throwing away anymore colored wrist bands from my events either.

I'm planning on wearing a blue rubberband around my wrist, and blowing through the bridge entrance at 35 mph!

The check point is well staffed, about ten feet wide, and the grade is 7%. Good luck hitting 35 up that hill, and in that traffic, which will still be fairly thick by that point. If the shade of blue isn't just right, or the width of the band is off, the odds of your making it onto the bridge are slim.

Also, last year, I helped pay for that fine infrastructure you will be doing the balance of the ride on. If you do make it, enjoy it - freeloader. I sent the organizers a link to this thread, so they'll be vigilant.

I did not register because 50 bucks is a bit high for a 25 mile ride. That is two bucks a mile and while it would be really cool to ride the bridge I could not justify the cost for such a short ride The website says "Due to overwhelming demand, we have currently filled our event with registration. Registrations may become available for walk up at packet pick up on 8/25"

Let's go ahead and turn our sarcasm detectors up a few notches before we get all pissy, shall we?

How was Pendleton?
Good turn-out at GMR--probably about 30 OC Rebels, and the weather wasn't too hot.

Yes it was, I admit it. Freeloading on something that so many paid for willingly is pretty CS too.

BTW. It was also BS. I didn't have to. They are always ready for it.
