Congratulations! That is quite an accomplishment. I'm planning a ride up Haleakala on Maui next month and you're making me feel like a slacker! Haleakala is only 36 miles and 10,023 feet from the beach to the summit, with no dirt section.

Climbing Haleakala will be great. Make sure to fill up with water and food at the last store on the way up. Smooth ride and a nice descent. Have a great time.

I'm sort of picky about what I eat and drink on rides, so I've been training with a camelbak and plan to use one on the ride. Every write-up I've read recommends full finger gloves, arm warmers and a jacket for the descent, so it makes sense to use one anyway.

Guess I missed this one the first time around. Great writeup and photos. Riding all that way just to have to tackle a steep dirt road has gotta be rough.
I keep telling my wife this is the leverage she has to get me to do a family vacation in Hawaii (pre-cycling, I didn't really feel the need to go back after our first visit). Hopefully she's listening.

Wow, what an effort. I was just in Kona and rented a bike for two days. Got in three rides. I had aspirations of climbing Koloko? I think it was; but just climbing Hina Lani wasted me. That was only about 1400 feet in 3.4 miles with some small flat sections.
Seems everything there except Quen K involved a lot of climbing.
