Finally did sart and......
 

No disrespect to anyone,but it was really nothing great.Lots of people walking and skating and they don't get along with well with us cyclists.It was not a very scenic ride at all as well.I had a good time of course because i got a ride in and that's when im the happiest ,but i would never go out of my way to ride it again.Give me Malibu just north of zuma any day. Also, i see why people should refrain from this place after sundown.....not to street smart if you know what i mean.To each their own.I did meet some very nice cyclists who gave me good advice on when to ride at and where to start and end.But then again, that should not surprise me because Ive yet to meet a jerk yet on a bike when cycling alone.Is it just me ,or are cyclists the nicest people around?

When I was a kid I rode my BMX bike from Rowland Heights to Huntington Beach on Valley View the whole way! As if the unpadded plastic BMX seat wasn't bad enough, I rode through 3,600 stoplights on my way to & from the beach and I never wanted to touch a bicycle again after that.

The biggest benefit is you can ride 68+ miles uninterupted. And it is cool when everyone else is hot.

I usually ride that thing early in the day and it's just me, some weird birds & a squirrel or to.

Shortly after that miserable day in '83, I got a Schwinn Voyageur for Xmas, joined the track, cross-country, swimming & water polo teams, and started doing triathlons.

to the OP, i don't think anyone ever claimed SART was a destination type ride, or a must do spot. its there and serves its purpose, and say what you like about it but its far, far better that its there than not.

You rode over Colima to Valley View? Nice...

My parent's house is just off Colima in Hacienda Heights. Lived there until 1993. If I was going to HB from Rowland Heights, I don't know that I would have tried Colima. But it is probably better than Turnbull or Old Fullerton, at that time, anyway.

Did you go to high school in RH? If so, which one?

And yep, I rode over Colima, through &#^% (blech) Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs. I lived in Walnut, just off Colima from 83-87. It was even miserabler on the way back because I had scabs where my chamois should've been and the smog was thicker than soup.

"MUPs are boring" isn't really a news flash for anyone here.

Sart is a great route to work for me. Beats grappling with cars.

Since I've gotten away from the river trails, I've found a lot of interesting things I'd likely never have seen if I'd been driving, since I'd have taken different routes to those destinations, and you just can't see things from cars the way you can from bikes. That library in Irvine, back behind the Marketplace. Cruising the streets of old-town Orange, or Historic Anaheim Colony, or downtown Santa Ana, admiring the lovingly maintained Craftsman-style homes (and the occasional Victorian). Or the streets of LA, either on my own or participating in CicLAvia. Whittier Greenway. That path in Yorba Linda, whatever it's called, that starts off of Imperial and Rose and winds around past the backside of the Tricky Dicky Library almost to Orangethorpe.

But I don't ride to see how fast I can go on a crowded MUP.

I seldom ever ride a MUP especially SART. If I ride it its because it was the shortest quickest route to someplace else I need to go. For instance two week ago, on mountain bikes, we rode through Chino Hills Start Park and then took SART back to Weir Canyon. BTW I think the part from Green River to Weir is scenic although filled wth other cyclists, joggers, dogs, kids whatever. I also like the park from Yorba Regional down to the Big A (actually before that) from there on down, its ugly and doesnt get nice until a mile or two from the Ocean. I can think of much better routes to get to the same local. But worth trying once or twice. Just remember it is not a bike trail and others have just as much right to be there...

Rides are what you make them. Do SART enough times it's no big deal. Do GMR enough times, it aint' no big deal either. Both can be fun!

I'm surprised somebody would expect any course to be great.

The Yorba Linda Muni Trail. Apparently it used to follow the irrigation pipes into the orange groves. There is a sign along it (right by the wooden bridge) which indicates that part of it was put in by Standard Pacific Homes.
