    Los Angeles bike registry

    http://www.lasdhq.org/bear/index.html

Has anyone used the LA County Sheriff's Dept. bike registry? When a bike gets stolen I know the chances of recovery are slim, but if it is recovered, would having my bike serial number in this database help recover, or at least facilitate the process of verifying that it is mine? Or would taking photos beforehand be sufficient for proof of ownership?

The program is free, but it seems a bit of a hassle making an appointment, going to the station, etc.

It will be a good idea to register the bikes, you never know.
