Track Bikes, Into the Mountains ...
Has anyone ridden their track bike in the mountains? I do Glendora Mountain Road to Baldy about every two weeks and have only seem one other guy on a track bike.
I plan on riding, in three consecutive weekends, Mt Wilson, Mt. Baldy and Mt Palomar. Anyone interested for all or one of these climbs?

So far I got two others crazy enough to attempt it. Email me if you are interested.
(I say three consecutive weekends, but with MTB and CX racing season approaching, it may not be a reality)

My Fuji Track Pro is geared for the flats at 49x17 my knees would go POOF in a small cloud of smoke after few feet going up GMR

I ride 46 x 15, its actually not bad at all for GMR to Mt Baldy. I think for a group ride, I will gear to a 16t to 17t (Wilson), Palomar maybe 17t? Direct ride up Mt Baldy, a 16t is better but a 17t would be best for the lifts section.

I'm interested, but I think I'll need to put in some work before GMR. I was planning to bike up the Griffith Observatory route soon, so if I survive, I'll join.

I've done it (actually on a converted road bike) in a 44x17. My girlfriend does it a lot, and has been riding 48x16-- she's getting ready to do the FC508 as a two-women fixed team (we did 2x mixed fixed last year). I think she's planning to race in a 49x17. She's ridden the 48x16 as high as Icehouse canyon, but not all the way to the ski lifts.

I've done lots of climbing on an SSCX here in the Santa Monica Mountains. I'd join you but I don't drive to ride anymore. Have a ball.

I passed a guy once on GMR who was riding a singlespeed/fixie (?) I told him he liked suffering way more than me.

I don't, but I'd bet it was you. I used to ride GMR every weekend, and I've never seen another fixie or singlespeed. (although I did pass a hipster who was walking his fixie up the straight section at the bottom, once.)

Wow, congrats!! That sounds painful. I think I could ride my fixed up to a steady 8% grade, but not for miles, like on GMR. How often are you out of the saddle?

I've never tried GMR on fixed but may just do that this winter. I ride 42 x 15 (mid 70's inches) so I think it's possible. But yeah, there would be lots of suffering!

I remember seeing 2-3 Asian guys doing GMR on FG or SS bikes in one of Beanz videos. It was on a big GMR group ride maybe 2-3 years ago.
