Are there easier rides you can recommend for a noobie? I think i might die if i tried 8K ft.

Of course there are 1000s of easier rides all over the world. You need to be more specific on what you are looking for.
The good thing about climbing hwy 39 is you can turn around whenever you want and there is just a little climbing near the bottom, or you can park your car at West Fork and you won't have any climbing on the return trip.

what happened today? i got to encanto about 5 minutes late and didn't see any group and figured you all left on time at 7:30. i took off up the hill but didn't see anyone all day

I'm riding with a buddy of mine who is new to cycling. He's been doing pretty good. He rode Lytle Creek a couple of weeks ago and GMR last week. We will more than likely do the opposite as JMX and start at 6 and be caught up. My buddy may turn around somewhere after Camp Williams and I will keep going.
I also learned this morning that I have to be on call for work on Saturday. Has anyone ever gotten reception up towards Crystal lake ? and if so, what carrier ? I have a T-mobile and a Sprint phone

I also got an email from Stefan Dragoshinov saying he'll be there. Stefan is an amazing climber, so he will be to the summit first (at least that's my prediction!).
Last Saturday he rode the Deer Creek Death Ride in the Santa Monica mountains, then drove from the finish there to Glendora to join us for the GMR Night Ride!
