Good to hear you liked it and good to see you out there so often! It is a wonderfully scenic area! We did pretty well with the weather too, just a kind of nasty side/head wind from Benton to Bishop. Otherwise quite good. I finished in just under 14 hours, so overall, not bad! Rick / OCRR

Registration for Death Valley Fall Double is open. They are up to 254/300 riders and it looks like it might sell out in the next few days.

Rick@OCRR 06-04-13 07:56 AM

I'm not riding Death Valley but I do plan to ride Grand Tour Highland. Hope to see everyone there!

Lesper4 06-04-13 03:39 PM

I will be there Rick.

Okay, great, see you there! Always a fun ride. We're starting at 4:30AM. Rick / OCRR

Lesper4 06-06-13 09:07 AM

Are you driving out? That was kind of my plan since there are no close motels besides Calabasas.

Biker395 06-06-13 09:43 AM

Sheez. Why are you guys talking about the ESD under the Solvang Double thread? Trying to confuse an old man? lol

Lesper4: I told you. :D

Here are some pix from the ESD:

We stay in Motel 6 in Bishop for ESD

I stayed there Friday night, and the room was amazing for a Mo6. They all look the same, right? Not this one ... the room was larger, clean, and tastefully decorated.

That is where we stayed when we went backpacking last year but I couldn't find much with two beds so we stayed at the Ramada very close and nice. Now the question is do I want to stay in shape to do this again next year (if it is offered)? Now I am thinking about White Mountain Double?

I tried to change the title but I was only able to change the first post title. This is more for Double Centuries and training.

I think I saw your bearded guy at Horseshoe Meadow when I got there at 4. He said he was waiting for his friends. They showed up around 6.

Agreed. I was shocked and amazed (in a good way) when I first took a look at the room. "Wait, what's different here? I thought this was Motel 6?"

Huge improvement for sure.

If anyone is still on the fence about DV Fall Double, time to make a decision. They are up to 298/300.

Lesper4 06-09-13 09:35 PM

I think I am you going to pass and put my luck on the white mountain double. I am keeping climbing regiment intact.

hamster 06-09-13 09:53 PM

Good luck with white mountain. I'll try (again) to lose 20 lbs for Death Valley.

Lesper4 06-09-13 10:52 PM

You are already light especially compared to me, maybe you just new longer rides? I have ridden 90 miles or more every weekend since 4/27 and and at least 70 going all the way back to 2/9. I think i have 13 centuries on the year.

I'm also short compared to you, so it cancels out. I've been doing pretty badly in climbing centuries too, my best placing was 303/436 in BA and all others were worse. Not sure where I am on centuries, but I'm close to 10. So long rides aren't the problem. It's just trying to carry too much weight up hills.

I did a ton of long rides and I weigh exactly as much as I did 3 months ago. I'm going to try something different now.

Lesper4 06-10-13 08:01 AM

shorter? but with the right bike size isnt that just ratios? Maybe less power but that really only shows on flat sections?

Lesper4 06-19-13 11:01 AM

Another day another double. Anyone else doing the Grand Tour (highland)? It is this Saturday. Should be fun as I get to ride a lot more of the coast then on the Solvang Double (depending on the wind). I also get to ride up the Potero wall for the first time. During the Cool Breeze ride the wind has never been good or bad on the coast, any previous experience on this ride, it does include a bit more road South?

Rick@OCRR 06-19-13 01:58 PM

Hi Lesper4,

I'll be on Grand Tour Highland too. We usually have headwinds after Grimes and before Dennison (through the orange groves) but usually a tail wind from Rincon back into Malibu. Your trade-winds my vary!

See you out there somewhere.

Rick / OCRR

PS: We keep talking about more doubles but the thread title still says "Solvang Spring." Maybe we can get a mod. to change the title to remove the "Solvang Spring" part. Then we could keep adding more doubles without confusing Victor!

Lol ... guilty as charged! I was flummoxed! :twitchy:

Lesper4 06-19-13 05:15 PM

Sounds good. Yeah I can't change the title of the thread just the title of the first post. How is a Mod I here, not sure if I have ever seen one?

Rick@OCRR 06-19-13 10:36 PM

Cbadrider is a Mod, I'm pretty sure and she rides doubles, so maybe she would do it? Can you do that for us Cbad? Rick / OCRR

Lesper4 06-23-13 12:01 AM

http://app.strava.com/activities/62225852 My fastest double yet, that tail wind sure did help.

Rick@OCRR 06-23-13 10:19 PM

Not a fast double for me but a fun day on the bike! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/332223705 Rick / OCRR
