Rode trail today. Area is indeed paved North of Carson, but the trail exit at Carson is now closed. They are doing some demolition there right now. I saw five guys there this morning...I wish they would finish an area before they start a new location...just saying.

five guys.... mmmmmm.... burgers.

Say, have any of you hit the Coyote Creek trail lately? Is that open yet? That would be a perfectly workable alternative (for me at least)

The Coyote Creek closure is tied to the I-5 widening project so don't expect that to be done until 2014.

There are also surface-temperature considerations in paving.

So, any updates to the trail? A couple days of rain can't delay the construction that much can it? On second thought...

Careful, or Condorita, the apparent public (doesn't) works apologist, will give you more reasons that, despite our relatively predictable and temperate climate, they are fully excused from creating and meeting a construction schedule.

Daaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg!

Ha, yeah, whatever it takes. All the detours are a drag. Went under Carson the other day, felt like I was walking through someone's living room...creepy vibe! Expected some smelly Troll to come out...

Tell it!

BTW, I was by there on Thursday. Looks like they put some asphalt down but the stretch from Del Amo to Carson (east side) is still closed. Opposite side (west side) is available for detour.

Update: the tunnel at 183rd is still under construction but was passable today:

view heading north into tunnel

Inside tunnel heading north

Coming back south to tunnel

View south from just inside the tunnel

I rode the new paved section between Del Amo and Carson

Blocked at Carson still but I got around fence and rode on the gravel under Carson

My bike in front of the path closed sign looking north

Did they widen that tunnel that is extremely narrow where you have to shout when you enter/exit?

Yes. That was the point of the construction. And they straightened out the approach/exit, too.

Nope... That one is north at Whittier I believe. The one at 183rd was done for some other reason

assuming you mean the one that also has signs about possible flooding...that is at Whittier

There is more than one skinny underpass but Whittier is definitely the worst.

I hope they're finished by summer.

I haven't seen this since they started construction. I get off at Carson and go up to Palo Verde. I miss the old route.

Sorry to awaken a Zombie thread, but I'd appreciate any up-to-date info on closures, detours, etc.

I'm thinking about riding the SGRT from end to end. Here's a map:

Thanks!

Rode from El Monte to Seal Beach via the SGRT Sunday afternoon. No closures or detours. Lots of riders. Some horses too!

Yeah, I did it Saturday. It's about damn time they finished that thing! The newly widened underpass is much better... maybe they'll take a couple of years to fix Whittier next.
