what a day for a ride in so cal

As you guys probably know, today at the beach was about 82 degrees, sunny, clear and almost no wind. I rode from Torrance down to El Segundo and then back to PV to do some hills.

I am supposed to be in Minnesota right now where its cloudy, cold and snow everywhere.

This is why So Cal is so easy to stay here, lol

I wish we had a lot more of this weather. I'm getting tired of riding in the 50's and 60's. Weird weather today though. The temperature peaked at 82 degrees along the coast at 10:30am then fell into the upper 70's in the afternoon. I grew up in Chicago so I'm allowed to complain about 60 degree temps in winter...

I did 34 miles around 90815(long Beach) and it was gusting to 14-18mph, low humidity and dirty air.
Wish I worn M/C goggles. My eyes still feel gritty this am but all is good.
As Murphy's Law works, the wind shifted into me once again on the way home. lol

Life is good on a bicycle.

Cheers!

+1 Lungs were really feeling it today from Cerritos to Newport. Glad I brought my inhaler.... Nice day for ride, but almost ruined by some guy showing off for his GF. He pulled the classic "suck wheel for 10 miles, sprint juuust past the head of the group, then suddenly pull off and stop (sprinted up left, pulled off right)" move. Luckily, it only resulted in some hip & wheel bumping, a little skidding, but everyone managed to keep it upright. Noobish move for sure, but come on, how about some common sense?

Where's that "we're going to yell at you" thread?....

That thread is on the 41 but yeah, what a meathead.

I had a weird one today on SGRT - some guys were pulled over on the left side of the trail (off the trail, standing around) and I was rapidly catching up to a guy in front of me... He put his left hand out like he was going to turn over and join those folks, but all he did was come to a dead halt, kind of wobbly. He wasn't a safety hazard or anything, just a little bit weird.

Angio - wait till Jerry Brown sends you your weather tax bill. We don't publicize it much but we do pay for this fine weather.

Awesome day in the Conejo...80+ and getting hotter by the minute. Taste of summer before the rains come back next week.

Seemed just cool enough at the beach this afternoon it wasn't totally overrun with people. I climbed the hill into Palos Verdes for the first time but couldn't seem to find any roads with bike lanes so didn't get far. Came upon the aftermath skateboarder-beach cruiser collision in Santa Monica on the beach path (I only use a short section on my way home.) Reminded me why I mostly avoid the beach path between Venice and Santa Monica.

What street did you take up into PV ? I usually ride on Via Del Monte which has a nice wide shoulder. I find the motorists in PV are very accomodating to cyclists even if there isnt alot of room on other roads.

Here's a link to my Strava. I was just kind of winging it. As you can see, I didn't get far up the hill.

Haha--Lauretta just commented about that to me in an email. We had some high clouds down here in SD, keeping the temps in the low-70's. Just enough ocean breeze to keep the ride fresh & cool.
We rode from Carlsbad to downtown SD, had Indian food, and took the train back up to C'bad. Just took it easy, had a cuppa coffee at the Goldfish Point Cafe in La Jolla, overlooking the swim cove (the seals down there make the place smell like a litterbox badly in need of some fresh litter) and just cruised through the beautiful places along the coast in La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs. A magical day with my Sweetheart.
It's going to be a great summer!

I rode through at least 3 different seasons (spring, summer and fall) on my Saturday ride in and around the Conejo.

Nes, please stop telling people how great we have it...do you want more people moving in?

We had a good sized group starting at Encanto Park in Duarte at 8:00AM for a climb up Hwy 39. Some riders just went to Crystal Lake and came back down. Others rode on the closed section of Hwy 39 (though lots of rock litter!) to Hwy 2/Angeles Crest. Fewer still rode all the up to Dawson Saddle (the road was closed to motor traffic).

For those of us that did, the weather did get a might chilly (low 50's), plus there was a breeze, but nothing horrible. We were essentially riding between the snow banks, sometimes two lanes wide, sometimes only one . . . but plenty of room for a bike. Here's a photo:

From the summit at Dawson Saddle we rode down to Crystal Lake Cafe for a small lunch before descending to East Fork, short stop at Camp Williams, then up Little GRM to Big GMR, down to Sierra Madre and back to Encanto Park.

Here's the Strava for the ride: https://app.strava.com/activities/42893873
