How busy is Sat am check-in for Solvang?

In the past we've checked in on Friday night but unless your timing is good the line is long. Since we only do the 100K on our tandem a Saturday am check-in would work fine schedule-wise, but I'm wondering about the line. Any personal experience out there?

Did it once, there was a line but not horribly long like on Fri.

So let's turn this into a "who's going" thread...

Me!

Rick, I picked up some compact chainrings and installed them tonight (building a new bike) so I think I'm ready to chase you up some hills.

Wish I'd known that Sat. since we did a climbing ride up Hwy 39 to Dawson Saddle (CA 2 / AC was closed to motor traffic) with snow on both sides of the road.

Then we descended to Crystal Lake for lunch at the Cafe.

Still feeling spunky, we descended to East Fork and took the Little GMR climb up to Big GMR and took that down to Sierra Madre, right on Sierra Madre back to Encanto Park in Duarte.

Here's the Strava: http://app.strava.com/activities/42893873

Short of a century but still good training for the Joshua Tree Double!

Oh, Solvang, yes the single and probably the double.

Eh, I still had the wrong chainrings on Saturday and only had time for a 2 hour ride with all my kids' commitments but I'm jealous! That looks like a fantastic ride... something you don't get to do that often around here.

We do Hwy 39 variations fairly often so I'll let you know next time we head up that way. Now that you have a compact you'll have no problems going up the mountain!
