Touring LA County with LACBC and Where To Bike LA: Three Rivers
I saw this ride mentioned on the BikingInLA blog. LACBC and Where To Bike LA are putting on a group ride that traverses some of the local river trails. Here is the ride description:
From John Anson Ford Park, we’ll head down the Rio Hondo to its confluence with the LA River. From there, we’ll continue south a short stretch, crossing Long Beach — past Rosie the Riveter Park and the old Douglas and Boeing aircraft factories — to the San Gabriel River. (This brief foray onto bike lane is the ride’s only segment away from a river’s edge.) From there, we ride north to Whittier Narrows, across the flood control dam, and then, back down the Rio Hondo to the trailhead.

They request participants to RSVP.
I am thinking about riding it. My KOM plans have fallen by the wayside thanks to a prolonged bout with bronchitis, so this ride sounds about my current speed. Anybody else interested?

4-5 hours to go 44 miles? I think you're short changing yourself. I'm out of town
Out of curiosity, how are they getting from the LART to the SGRT? It might be a fun loop to do with my kids but although I usually take PCH, I'm not sure I want my kids on PCH.

I had a very ugly ride to River's End on Sunday. A very rude awakening after pretty much being off the bike for a month. I'v never ridden the Rio Hondo LA river paths, but I've read how dangerous they can be here on BF. I thought this might be a chance to ride them safely with a group. I'll probably blow it off and ride Seranata, Turnbull, Greenleaf, Belle River, et al.

Looks like Bixby Road, Cover St. and Conant St to get to Rosie The Riveter Park. Then, maybe, up Clark and take the Heartwell Park bike path over to SGRT? Straight across Wardlow is another option

What part was rude? Your legs protesting? Or hoodlums. I've ridden the Rio Hondo and LA river trails at least a handful of times and never seen anything that makes me nervous. Yet. There seems to be an indigenous population of tent living homeless people under the larger underpasses as you get into Long Beach. South of El Monte its pretty much classic cement scenery and nothing worth seeing. SGRT is definitely more visually interesting.
