Genaro's Weekly "Where Ya'll Ridin'?" Thread

A little late this week. (Sure hope you're okay out there, G-money.)

I'm blitzing up to San Clem and back through Pendleton Saturday morning, and then probably a cruise up the coast (maybe up to Torrey Pines Grade & back) on Sunday with my Sweetheart.

Safe riding this weekend, you kids and don't drink too much at the Alpine Brewery, Comrade! (That'd be easy for me, because they have too many disgusting IPA's.)

I'm hankering to get take my vintage Centurion out on the road for an OC Rebels ride on Sunday. Or I might bring my fixed gear out for some fun.

Boring short SART rides for me this weekend. Got my sons birthday weekend going on so I'll be playing with him and his new toys.

Sunday morning planning on doing a figure 8 around Bonelli park. I haven't done it in a while and I miss the scenery.

Do tell...

And I'm prepping for BA too, Lesper. 10+ pounds overweight and been completely slacking on the training. Riding the flattish course just to build up the butt-callouses, as I haven't even ridden a century yet this year.

I'm starting to worry about Genaro. It looks like he has ridden in the last few days, so maybe his internet got turned off.

I'll be Tour de Curing it on Sunday. I don't think I've ever seen a century route with so many snack stops.

I might drag my son out for a spin on Saturday - I think I got his triple shifting perfectly but I want to see it in action.

I'll be riding from Encanto Park, early start (7:00 AM) heading up Hwy 39, past Crystal Lake, up to Hwy 2 on the closed section, then right on Hwy 2 up to Dawson Saddle.

Yes, this is Breathless Agonly training too. Rode Onyx from both sides last weekend, so this will be something different!

I think you will be ready Rick, I like that ride I have been focusing on miles so last week I started my climbing again.
Chris you might stuggle the way you make it sound but I highly doubt it.

Last year I rode the worker's BA ride and drove support for the event (with help from Lauretta). This year I'm riding the actual BA but I'm torn between as early-as-possible start and starting later to have more people to ride with. Most likely be in OCRR kit.

I focused on miles by riding the Hemet Double a couple of weeks ago!

Oh, I struggled a fair piece last year on that last 10 miles. Definitely going to rein in the ponies for the first 45 miles this year!

Did 40 miles today - Escondido - Lake Wohlford Rd. - Woods Valley - Lilac - then up 395. Great weather but some strong winds up through the 395 corridor.

Wow, my BA training is a joke compared to you guys... Did MC two weeks ago and have barely been on the bike since - took a week for my knee to stop hurting. Finished MC with barely 10 mins to spare, so I will be starting BA at the earliest possible moment and hoping for the best! I want that KOM jersey. MC was the hardest climbing I have ever attempted. Last year on BA I hit stop #3 10 mins past the deadline... (DNF Argh).

Did the first ride of the weekend too. Knocked almost 30 s off the time on one of my most passionately hated segments near my house - long sustained climb with 430 ft of elevation gain and 8% steep section that I periodically use to test myself. 9:36 last summer -> 9:18 in February -> 8:51 today. Which puts me in the top third of the leaderboard. The guy on top, local teenager and apparently an aspiring pro racer, somehow did the same thing in 6:24.

Will probably ride ATOC stage 1 route tomorrow. That plus a couple of intervals workouts next week should conclude my preparation for BA.

Saturday I am taking a flock of 5 year old girls to Legoland, so Sunday my reward is a ride from Dana Point to Ontario and back by going over Blackstar Canyon on vintage road bikes.

Wait, does that go through? That road starts half way up Santiago Canyon, right? Sounds like a pretty challenging ride, have fun.

Going to be riding in the Tour de Cure on Sunday, the first organized century I've done. 1 year anniversary since I first got this bike too!

I did Critical Mass yesterday in Los Angeles for the first time. If anyone was there and saw a guy dressed as Spider-Man, that was me Had more fun than any ride I've been on because me and a friend showed up ten minutes late and they had rolled out, so we kept trying to figure out what path they took and along the way kept picking up more and more riders until we had our own mini Critical Mass starting. It was so funny because someone would call up a friend who was in the ride to figure out where they are, than we'd go to that spot and see no one, and start arguing with each other, than someone would call a friend and we'd head to the next spot, repeat Eventually we made it to the first stop at First and Alameda, but that whole bit of wandering L.A. with the urban youth was too much fun.
Had to cut the ride short though, because for some reason, my left crank arm came loose. Which was weird because I've put hundreds, if not at least a thousand miles on this bike and never touched the crank arms. Pulled the arm today, saw it was fine, bolt and threads were fine, so I greased the square and put Loctite on the bolt. Same for the other side which was fine but might as well. Still don't know why it happened.
Lot of other rides this weekend. If it's hot tomorrow, I'll probably go to Santa Monica and ride the bike path to Long Beach or wherever it ends.

Is it an FSA?

Rode to a bike shop in Solana Beach to pick up some new kits yesterday. Didn't wear sunscreen so my arms are red.

Did the Saturday club ride for the first time in several years. They left a half hour early so I ended up with another group.

LOL I didn't even look, I put water on my head and sat in front of the window as cold air blew out of the post office. It wasn't that bad in the shade but after being on the pavement most of the day with out shade I was cooked. I think eventually I will acclimate to the summer as I have been used to the cold times.
