I may ride down to Lytle Creek and up to the firing range with justrelax and his bro on Saturday, depending on what time they leave..

That is a big weekend if he is riding Dawson's Saddle with me on Sunday. I am sure his bro would be up for it.
Nice to have these threads back.

Hey Genaro, my bro and I will be going up Lytle on Saturday, but we may not go all the way. Our younger brother will be coming with us and he hasn't gotten much exercise recently, so my guess is he won't be able to make it all the way up to the top and we will probably be going at a pretty slow pace. If you want to come with us, we will probably be at the Valero gas station at around 8:30-8:45am. Let us know if you're interested!
Loren - yes, I plan on doing this ride and then the Dawson Saddle ride on Sunday. This should be a decent prep ride before I carb load in preparation for Sunday!

On Sat. riding from Encanto (7:00AM start) to Dawson Saddle. Will probably visit Crystal Lake and Camp Williams on the return and finish up Little GMR to Big GMR to Sierra Madre back to the park.
On Sun. Whittier Hills starting from TGI Friday's on Birch in Brea at 8:00AM, up Brea Canyon, Pathfinder, Old Fullerton, East, West, Janine, Youngwood, Serranata, Mar Vista, Colima, Camino Del Sur, Valencito, Turnbull Canyon (via Descending), w/stop at Starbucks in uptown Whittier. Return pretty much the same except do Avacado Crest off Hacienda for more climbing.

Loren, nice running into you yesterday. Did you do all three ? Hermosa, Haven, and Archibald ? You racked up some elevation

^yeah one of these cold winters I might hit them all. It is just no fun descending that steep and bumpy of a road.

Looks like I will be shadowing Rick Saturday and possibly Sunday (Azusa Cyn Saturday and Local Brea Canyon Sunday). Haven't done either ride, but both look good. I'm pretty sure I will be way, way way behind him riding sweeper. haha. Made the mistake of riding Carbon and Brea Canyon yesterday a.m. between 6 and 8 am, a million cars and one real nasty MVA on Brea Cyn. Scary stuff.

Sounds good to me jimxyz; we really don't go all that fast either.
Let me know if you need any other information about the rides. I drive a dark green Miata and ride a Titanium GT w/SRAM Force if you want to find me in the parking lot. No idea what jersey I'll be wearing . . .

In all the years I lived in Chino Hills I never worked up the cajones to ride Carbon Canyon Rd (at least solo.) The narrow shoulder, in many spots, with all of the curves looked dicey to cycle on.

Well, indomikey and I rode up Lytle Creek today but were pressed for time so we only ended up going to the fire station. Indomikey was superstrong today, I was supposed to have a prep workout for tomorrow's epic ride but indomikey put me in the red zone today, haha!
On the way up, we waited for Genaro for 10 minutes but he didn't show up. Later on, on the way down, we saw Genaro going up. Indomikey took a nasty fall on the ride down, but luckily the injuries were minor.
All in all, it was a good ride, but hopefully it was short enough to not affect me for tomorrow's ride.

I was just distracted from every angle haha. Bee stung me on the way down, that was bugging, left turn, which is my worse side, no shoulder on the road, and trying to keep far right as possible, and trying to see if that was Genaro we were passing as he was going up. Kinda bit of everything.
Road in the dirt shoulder for about 10 feet, which was ok, but needed to bunny hop back onto the road and the rear wheel didn't make it and slipped out.
Gonna be sore in the morning, but mostly just road rash and bruising.
Probably most hurt is the ego!

We had a good ride on Hwy 39 today; Starting from Encanto it was Vertical Bob, Kurt, Lauretta, Linda Adams, Yugi, Anny Beck and myself. Good ride with no problems to Crystal Lake Café. Linda turned around there (had to get back early) but the rest of us had a great lunch at Crystal Lake Café! After Lunch Kurt and V.Bob decided to got back down, then do Little GMR. Yugi, Lauretta and I all decided to go up to Dawson Saddle. Beautiful up there today! On the way down, Lauretta and I decided to go East Fork / Little GMR then down big BMR while Yugi just went straight back to the park on Hwy 39. Lauretta and I did the Whole Thing! Ended up going to Baldy Saturday as two riders in our small group were pressed for time - perfect weather on the mountain. Today I missed the Fullerton/Brea/Whittier ride as the kids wanted to make breakfast (but they don't get up at 5 am like the rest of us, so an 8 am departure was impossible...) - happy fathers day!

hafta work all weekend but made up for it with a quickie 2 day trip thurs/fri riding part of
az hwy 67 on the kaibab plateau on the way to the north rim of the grand canyon
along with 2 rides in zion np and a 105 degree scorcher at valley of fire state park
an hour north of las vegas. a lotta driving to/from san diego but the scenery on the
rides was top notch, the traffic light and the road quality generally pretty good.

https://app.strava.com/activities/60849754 Great weather in the mountains, seems like everyone is riding up to Dawson Saddle. I almost went down as well but I held it. I was looking at my speed at the bottom of 39 where the bike path begins and then suddenly there was no shoulder. I dropped off into the dirt but was OK.

Did GMR->Dawson Saddle and back. It was great to get the hell away from the kids on Fathers Day . The kids are 1 and 3 and life is crazy, so some mountain time was a nice treat. Since instagram didnt link the photos to my Strava activity I'll just post them here.

Every Thursday! Not sure of the route this week, maybe back to normal but add half of Haven. One of these days I just want to ride straight out and do LC like we use to after work, that construction really is a bummer.

Sounds good - I can do one or two of the climbs, maybe Hermosa and Day Creek and head back west as I have to take the little one to Balet
