Stabbing on rio hondo today?

Just heard it on the local news. Didn't catch all the details. It sounded like it was just south of the air port.

That section along there is pretty bad for lots of reasons. That is also where my friend was mugged a few years back.

Sigh, so with this and the shooting near Whittier Narrows a while back, I just don't have a safe way to get to most of my rides anymore. Should we be avoiding these parts? Or are these incidents more like isolated incidents? What time of the day was your friend mugged? Are mornings safer?

Many of these incidents don't seem to involve cyclists, they just happen to occur where cyclists ride. That's not to say there aren't any, and in general I'd agree with you that mornings are safest. Riding when the paths are well occupied is probably also safe but I definitely steer clear of all these paths once dusk hits.

Often there isn't very much follow-up to these trail stories. We may never know who this last victim is or hear much more about the circumstances around his death.

Sad, I was just about to warm up to the "Emerald Necklace" SGRT/Rio Hondo trail after playing on segments of the SGRT... news stories like these every few months keep me from doing more. Especially when there are better shaded, prettier, and safer cruises along the foothills.

Yes he was riding his bike. Two young males threatened him with a chain if he didn't give them his wallet. They weren't interested in his bike. It happened at about 8AM, too. Not the time of day that you would expect a robbery.

Boo.

Sorry to report, my ride today had to be rerouted due to another body found. A public officer was stopping people from going further south after crossing San Gabriel blvd.

Urgh, that's horrible! Maybe we need to ride down on the river bed...

From the footage, it looks like it's the part where it's parallel to Lincoln, not next to Durfee. Can someone confirm?
