This is getting all to common. I wonder if the fatality hit and run here in Pinellas County was a possible DUI.

The rest of the story.... The woman accused of hitting two bicyclists on Labor Day, killing one and severely injuring the other, pleaded guilty Tuesday to the charges against her. Jessica Goddard, 29, from Cayucos, has been charged with two felony counts: gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury. The second charge also includes an enhancement of inflicting great bodily injury. On Friday, Goddard entered a not guilty plea during her arraignment, but at her pre-preliminary hearing on Tuesday, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office says she changed her plea to guilty. Goddard is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 8. She faces a maximum of 14 years in state prison.

Post an update after her sentencing if you think of it. You think you'd be safe from DUI drivers at 11 in the morning.

And it's bad enough watching out for sober tourists headed to and from Hearst Castle.

Wow, no relief for the victim's families but maybe a little sense of justice. Thanks for updating everybody.

She got 11 years only because she had previous convictions for DUI, reckless driving and hit-and-run. If the judges in her previous cases had given her the maximums for her earlier transgressions, perhaps Goddard would have either learned her lesson or still been behind bars and Alan Stephens would still be alive. Light sentences for DUI and hit-and-run do a disservice to the public as well as the convicts. They never learn a damn thing if they are left off with a slap on the wrist.

True. Too many multiple DUI offenders get a pass until their luck runs out at the cost of serious injury or death to others.
