Palm Springs to Las Vegas

1 Attachment(s)
I could never find any info on this ride so I thought I'd post it up. My friend and I did a ride from Palm Springs to Las Vegas (thru Amboy, Mojave National Preserve and Nipton). The roads were all perfect and had very light traffic minus a few miles we had to ride on I-15 heading in to state line. You can find photos here: Palm Springs to Vegas

If anyone needs detailed directions let me know. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=342894

Great job! There is also an invite only ride with some running evolved in March that takes 2 days.

Wow, I was thinking this would be a pretty awesome adventure, then remembered there's nothing out there. How much food and water did you carry?

i did this ride a couple times. there are vending machines and a store at roy's (amboy), and a diner at the kelso depot. there used to be a small store at cima, but it was closed (permanently?) last time.

yah that hill between 29 palms and amboy (sheephead pass?) is a doosie. last time i was out there. the road just north of the pass all the way to amboy was a mess and in
horrible need of repaving. the stretch north from hwy 40 to the kelso train depot is a really pretty segment.

We had 4 bottles of water each, and carried a full gallon just in case. We stocked up in 29 Palms, Amboy gas station (weird hours and not much food), again at Kelso Train Depot which has a Cafe where we enjoyed 4 hotdogs each (again with weird hours), and again at state line. We were lucky to stumble upon a group camping that provided us with much needed beer at the end of day 1, ha. I wish I had more time to write out the exact route and stops you can make. Maybe later this week I will try and get it all on here.

Sheephead Pass was blackout #2 of the trip for me, ha. We camped at the top of it the first night.

Is there any info on this event?

The Vegas challenge, it is run by the same guy that does the tour de foothills. I think like 15 people did it last year, mostly from.his team.
