Just wondering how safe they are for riding.

As the above poster mentioned, Pico is very crowded where it crosses the I-5. It has no bike lane and there are freeway style on/off ramps. Hermosa has high speed traffic, but there is a wide bike lane However, the eastbound lanes are closed at one point because they are being used as a construction staging area. Also, Hermosa is not a though street to Pico/PCH. The road is built, but it is fenced off.

If you are looking for a safe place to cross the freeway, try Avenida Vaquero. It is one mile to the north, but it does not have freeway access.
