    How dare those monsters! Bicycles have every right to take a lane at all times! We should all start carrying firearms when riding in barbaric East County! Who's with me?!?!?!

    The sign is at the east end of Honey Springs Road, at the intersection with Lyons Valley Road east of Jamul. I looked at the road in Street View and I think I can understand where the sentiment is coming from. It's a twisty 2-lane with little to no shoulder most of the way, very limited visibility and a double yellow line in the middle. Lack of the shoulder probably encourages cyclists to take the lane and that can be really annoying for drivers.

    It's basically just a bike-unfriendly road, like 76 or 78 here in North County.

    It would be even better to slow yer azz down and pass when safe. (Considering that a bike is probably* doing less than 20 mph there, it's not hard to do) Of course someone capable of deducing that would likely be able to learn to spell too.

    You can't legally or safely pass on that road unless the cyclist gets out of the way. Like I said, curves and double yellow all the way.

    If they can't legally or safely pass, then they just need to slow down and wait. Taking a lane at all times is our God-given entitlement as cyclists and as Americans.

    I believe it is legal to cross a double yellow for very slow traffic, like farm vehicles, horse drawn vehicles, and bicycles. As far as safe goes, that is a case by case thing.

    I'm pretty sure it isn't. CVC 21460. No crossing double yellow except when entering/exiting a driveway, turning at an intersection, making a u-turn, or getting out of the carpool lane to let an emergency vehicle pass.

    Unfortunately, Hamster is correct. The first or second time Jerry vetoed the 3ft passing bill he said it was because it permitted motorists to cross a double yellow.

    Actually, CA law requires bicycles take the lane on a road such as this. What's funny is that I ride out there pretty regularly, and have found drivers to be nothing but patient and courteous. Especially at night. Yes, I ride out there at night, and it is effing wonderful. However, it is a low traffic road, and there are plenty of spots where you can pull to the right edge of the lane and have room to be passed safely. For what it's worth, I think we've been trolled.

    I have ridden through that intersection a few times, both from Campo Rd. and Japatul Rd. I probably have more thumbs than the number of other cyclists I encountered through that stretch. I know I have more thumbs than the number of cars I encountered. I have never had a problem with a car, but I tend to keep right.

    Care to cite the language of the CVC that requires this? It certainly allows the cyclist to move farther to the left if the lane width is insufficient to be safely shared by a bicycle and a motor vehicle, but I don't recall any section of the CVC that requires the cyclist to move to the left.

    I am guessing he is referring to section 3 of VC 21202 but I dont read that as a "requirement"
    Operation on Roadway

    21202. (a) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway except under any of the following situations:
    (1) When overtaking and passing another bicycle or vehicle proceeding in the same direction.
    (2) When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
    (3) When reasonably necessary to avoid conditions (including, but not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards, or substandard width lanes) that make it unsafe to continue along the right-hand curb or edge, subject to the provisions of Section 21656. For purposes of this section, a "substandard width lane" is a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle and a vehicle to travel safely side by side within the lane.
    (4) When approaching a place where a right turn is authorized.
    (b) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway of a highway, which highway carries traffic in one direction only and has two or more marked traffic lanes, may ride as near the left-hand curb or edge of that roadway as practicable.
