Glendora Mountain burning
Fire broke out along Glendora Mountain Road this morning. Unfortunately with the Santa Ana winds and red flag warnings, it is moving fast down the mountain into the edge of town.

Its time for my morning to ride. Stiff winds down SART. Giant Fire/smoke cloud from the Glendora fire right outside my door. Even 35 miles away in Anaheim that is an impressive sight. Like a dark orange/white Cumulonimbus cloud but with a tail streaming away to the lee of the Mountain. God help the people in the way of that thing. Looks now like the smoke is starting to head in a more southerly direction. Towards my ride....

If the fire gets put out today or tomorrow, you think they will let bikes go up GMR? if it is not put out I will have to plan a new route.

Sounds like it was 3 20 something year olds that started the fire via a campfire.
Pretty impressive driving under the giant cloud of smoke this morning....the sun was blood red shining through the smoke.

That's too bad, but a natural part of our ecology I suppose.
Can't see the plume down here in C'bad, but can definitely make out the faint orange haze drifting out over the ocean.
WTF were those kids thinking having a campfire in the middle of a Santa Ana?

Homeless, tweekers, stoners, not-thinking... what did you think I was talking about when I described it as part of our ecology?

School I teach at was closed. Some of us teachers watched the hills burn from outside our classrooms as former students had to evacuate their homes as their neighborhoods caught fire. I felt a little guilty for thinking about the impact to my riding. Either way, everyone fighting the fire did a hell of job to contain it as quickly as they did.

I saw it from above flying into Ontario airport. The smoke spread over the area. When my wife texted me a photo shortly after it started, it looked like a giant mushroom cloud...

anyone know whether Monroe Truck Trail will be open on Sunday? Are they letting bikes get by the gate on GMR?
