My spokes are loose and I have a flat but as soon as I get those fixed and I am doing a local century.
Time changes this weekend. You want to ride next Thursday after work Genaro (a week from this Thursday)?
Welcome back, I think you brought the warm weather.

I am taking a couple of days off work this week in honor of my birthday this weekend, it's the first time I've taken time off for "vacation" in eight years. I'll have Thursday through Monday off, a total of five days. I'm going to ride EVERYWHERE.

Congrats on the wife's roadie conversion!
I'm gonna try GMR to the village Saturday. Time to start up spring training for another summer of epic MUP racing.

There's a thread in C/A about the LA Marathon Crash Race very early Sunday morning (4am.) Several members are attending. I've thought about going but transportation is an issue. I live by the beach so if I park by the start line (near downtown LA) I'll have to get a ride to pick up my car after the "race."

Marathon crash! Woooo hoo! Never done it and no, I'm avoiding the nutcases at the front.
Dunbar - there's a redline stop right by the crash start, you can ride form culver city back to downtown after the ride. I'll probably park in my wife's garage downtown and ride to the start. Honestly, if there was a half decent route back I'd probably prefer to ride.
Welcome back genaro, I was starting to think nobody cared where we were riding on the weekends anymore.

I did yesterday. It was the fastest solo non-aerobar ride I've done to date on my out-and-back 'TT' course - aka, the SART on a weekday. I think it was 21.6mph, which is more typical of what I'd get on the Roubaix using aerobars 50% of the time. Powermeter battery died, so the numbers have no context, but hey...I can tell myself it must be because the bike is awesome. Put on an aero jersey, an air attack helmet, and I'm ready for a full on cat5 breakaway.
Steering is pretty different than the Roubaix. Very peppy. Descending GMR this weekend should be a neat test.

Are the bars setup lower on the Venge than the Roubaix? I assume you sized up on the Venge to get the same length HT?
How is the ride quality?

Too early to comment on ride quality, but it felt fine on the SART .
Jon
PS, I'm not married to specialized, promise.

I'm a little skeptical of your definition of "upright"...
Next time you pass me on SART you'll see upright. I actually have spacers under the stem! And I think it's -8 or -12 or something, whatever combo of shim & stem got me the least upright on that 4-way specialized stem.

-12 with the +4 shim would be the most upright. Unless of course you flip the stem up. I'm running my Roubaix with all the spacers under the stem and a -10 stem. I've been sliding my seat back to get more stretched out. I'm starting to feel like I want to lower the bars and try -12. I currently run a measly 4cm of drop. However, I do hate the idea of cutting down the steerer tube if it can be avoided (for resale value.)

least upright, not most upright. I'll have to take a look when I blow the cobwebs off the saddle and go for a ride tomorrow. I spent a lot of time moving my bars around on my last roubaix and it didn't seem to make a huge difference, comfort wise, including using a -17 stem. I had a little periscope and everything above the stem.

UPDATE 8:30PM MAR 4th
I REGRET TO REPORT THAT
THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED.
Today. the Chief of Investigation and Enforcement of the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services made contact with Wolfpack Hustle and demanded that this event be cancelled or we may face criminal charges and bear liability for the costs of enforcement. This comes as a shock and disappointment.
We have requested an expedited permit be granted but have been told initially that it is not possible at this point for one to be granted. Therefore we have no choice but to fully comply with the city's demands and we strongly urge that everyone obey the city's request not to engage in this event or any like it.
Though unpermitted, this event has enjoyed the support of the LAPD and city going into it's fifth year now, Wolfpack Hustle has been cooperative, and had sought to partner with LAPD and all agencies. We've met with and cooperated with city officials on several occasions. For 2014, we've taken further measures to ensure that the participants are safe and to prevent any claims being made on the City of Los Angeles and other cities and agencies, via waivers, participant / competitor separation, and by purchasing event insurance.
This event has been in the planning for at least one year, and builds on a community tradition referred to above. To threaten criminal prosecution 5 days prior to the event taking place comes as a shock and disappointment: The city is now demanding permits and payments where it has never done so in the past.
THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

I'll be doing the Chuck Bramwell Palomar ride that starts from Oceanside. Just over a century with 10,200 feet of climbing. I rode this one last year; should be fun again!
Rick / OCRR
Saturday, March 8, 7:30 A.M.
94 Miles with 8,940 Feet of Climbing without the Palomar Observatory option
104 Miles with 10,200 Feet of Climbing with the Palomar Observatory option
Rain Cancels
Let’s ride the Oceanside to Palomar Century which includes the famous climb up Palomar, also known as the Alpe d’Huez of Southern California, and Cole Grade Road. It’s an easy 1 hour drive to the start in Oceanside. This is one of the finest routes in Southern California!! The Century is a tough but epic one with 10,200 Feet in 104 Miles if you include the climb up to the Observatory.
The weather looks like it should be good with a forecast for Palomar showing a high of about 62 with a 10% chance of rain on Friday, March 7 at
https://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...in+CA+USCA0833
Valley Center is showing a forecasted high of 72 on the way back at https://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...er+CA+USCA1185
Which brings me to the “Palomar Mountain Wapner Weather Correction Factor”. Named after Mike Wapner who has tackled Palomar a couple of times, Mike noticed early on that whatever the forecasted temperature was, it was always A LOT hotter down there than the forecast. On 11/24/12, the forecast was for a high of 68 degrees at Palomar Mountain but we actually saw 86. So from now on, we’ll take the forecasted high and add 20 degrees to it for the Wapner Weather Correction Factor. Thanks Mike.
So the forecast high on Palomar will be 82 or so on the climb up Highway 76 and on the climb up Palomar’s South Grade Road. I’ll be bringing two big water bottles and my Camelbak.

Rick don't make me question my ride now, do you have a route slip? I think my ride would only be about 7000.

Yeah critical mass lost its police escort as well. It was madness last month. Who knows if it will continue. Apparently the new mayor hates us.
