    Salt Creek Bike Path.

From Camino del Avion to PCH southbound. Anyone done it?

I am planning this for this afternoon. I have ridden this entire route except for the Salt Creek segment, mile 30.4 to 32.0. It looks like it is through a golf course and gated community. Is it passable?

    Edit:

I did a street view and that route goes through a very locked gate.

I think this works better starting at mile 31.5 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4301248

As much as you paid for that Beemer [Mercedies, Audi, Escalade], I'm surprised it didn't come equipped with turn signals.

OCTA's website shows that as a public bike path all the way through. If an adjacent landowner is preventing access, then it should be reported to the appropriate authority. Who is that? I haven't a clue.

Try riding yourself rather than relying on streetview. If it's locked, you could notifiy OCBC and perhaps they'll run with it.

Actually, that locked gate does not appear to be on the bike path. My original track took me through a private housing development. Turning right instead of left after coming out of the PCH underpass puts me back on the path that skirts these homes.

I have done this enough times to know that street view is a good tool, but no replacement for riding it.

I recommend taking a left at Mile 29 to Niguel Road. Make a right on Niguel. Then make a left on Beacon Hill =). Didn't even know there was a bike path there. Camino Del Avion and Niguel are also a nice alternative.

Did you end up trying this?

Back in 2011, I did the Orangeman Triathlon, which used the Salt Creek Trail for the run leg from Salt Creek Park inland >3 miles and back (2 loops). It was a narrow hilly windy cart path that crossed under PCH, Camino Del Avion and Niguel Rd before turning around heading back . Incredibly hard run that was constant up and down, though as I recall the worst part was east of Camino Del Avion.

I don't know how many times I had ridden PCH through there and never realized there was a trail passing under and heading inland.

Wound up going down Nigel Rd. I hope to do the ride this week or next.
