I need suggestions for a route from the Glendale/Burbank area to Yorba Linda. Specifically Bastanchury just past Yorba Linda High School.
Was thinking of coming down SGRT, but whats the best way from there?
Or is there a better way to go?

You want hilly or flat? I live in Whittier and ride out near there pretty frequently - my favorite east/west ways of getting from SGRT over to the Yorba Linda area are either Beverly (via turnbull canyon) or Mar Vista over to the Colima area, then janine over to macy and then I'll get on Whittier Blvd all the way to just past Harbor (palm) down to Central/La habra. take that to Birch, which will curve around and turn into Rose and take you straight down to Bastanchary. I usually go west on Bastanchury from that point, but I presume that eastbound will be the same. They've removed bike lanes in parts so that they can add a central turn lane, so that's not cool. you can always divert south to the yorba linda recreational trail if you want to avoid bastanchury, and then just pop up north again on residential streets to get near the HS.

I'm not really sure how to get from Glendale to the SGRT area but I'll whip up a RWGPS route demonstrating what I mean if that's what you're looking for.

From Glendale/ Burbank, I would probably just take Colorado all the way to Rosemead Blvd. Or go down Verdugo to York to Fremont to Garvey to Rosemead. Good luck.

Thanks...I know how to get to SGRT...we ride to Encanto all the time...
Some climbing is ok, but i am on a tight schedule...so cant spend too much time out there...

here's one option: SGRT TO Yorba Linda - Pico Rivera, CA

The bit that goes by La Serna HS in East Whittier might be a big confusing if you don't have a GPS to follow, but it can be simplified.

I don't really like Lambert but it's OK east of 1st street (IMO) and you get some bike lanes. You could also get off SGRT at Whittier Blvd and just take that. Rick@OCRR might have some better recommendations for that part of your route but if it's early in the day Whittier doesn't bother me. it's pretty wide for most of the way, so there's room for a cyclist.

If you can get to Sierra Madre and Azusa Canyon (most likely Colorado all the way out), I would take that to Grand Ave and take that all the way down to Diamond Bar Blvd and then to Brea Canyon and ultimately to Bastanchurry. Grand has some climbing, but nothing too crazy. If you want to make it more interesting route around through Carbon Canyon once you get into Diamond Bar area.

I thought about that..never been thru Brea Canyon....not sure I have the time for that....but definitely on the lsit to try

I live in Downey and work in Fullerton. Although I have not ridden to work, on days the 5 fwy is really hosed up. I drive Telegraph road to Imperial to La Mirada Blvd to Mavern (which ultimately crosses Bastenchurry). Telegraph Rd near the 605 doesn't seem too bike friendly tho, everything else seems fine.

Has anyone used the Whittier greenway trail? Too many stops and street crossings?

the GWT blows.

It's tolerable from the western end up till about Mar Vista but after that the intersections are really awful (you have to detour 30 yards on a sidewalk over to the cross walk, then across, then back up a sidewalk...) Ugh.

I use it to get from SGRT to Mar Vista when my legs are fried and I don't want to deal with traffic.

thanks...I will try to avoid that...kind of looked interesting with some bridges and stuff....oh well
