I am a little confused as to the reason for the event, having never been what kind of riders show up? what is it specifically promoting? Sorry for being a little dumb on the idea.

So you've seen Metrolink's books and stats, and have confirmed that you DAMN SURE provide more funding than Ciclavia?
Heh heh--your whole vocal-minority rant is based on guesses & suppositions. If you really want to tech them a lesson, vote with your feet. Stop using Metrolink.

You can at least take comfort in knowing that a LOT more auto-drivers were inconvenienced than you were by it. Viva Ciclavia!

Ciclavia (click) is pretty much a street festival where they block the roads and let only pedestrians and bicycles on the road. It's not exactly an athletic event, because they only block off 2-5 miles and it's jam-packed with beach cruisers, babyjoggers, and people walking their dogs. It's also naturally a street vendor's bonanza.
Pretty much a vacation from cars and an opportunity to inhabit a non-place ordinarily reserved for cars.

Dangum Soviet Socialists' Republic of California. I don't mind my money going to subsidize Commando's commute, but I can't cotton to the idea that it's being indirectly used to promote Americans not exercising their God-given right to wait alone in their car behind thousands of other Americans waiting alone in their cars. Did we lose a war?! That's not America! That's not even Mexico!

Red Star... Soviet Bear... Red Field at the base of it all...? How much clearer do they have to make it?!

Sorry.I have to side with CommuteCommando on this. Ciclavia is trying to promote a 'bike friendly Los Angeles". They should NOT be screwing over the people that are ALREADY living the ideal that they are promoting!!

CommuteCommando: Perhaps an email to the Ciclavia is in order? I suspect they would be surprised at the "shenanigans" Metrolink is pulling to support their event.

Finally, the voice of reason without all the whining. Yes, I would suspect that the organizers of Ciclavia would be surprised and disappointed at the "shenanigans" of Metrolink. Ciclavia is a fantastic event. It could use some fine tuning. Thank you for your suggestion, markg.

I had a great time. Yes they only blocked off six miles but I rode 31 miles while I was there. Went off track up and down and into Beverly Hills where I met some really friendly women that rode way too slow for me to hang around very long. Then back to downtown for some Urban Jungle running with the cars. What a blast. Sorry Commando but So Much FUN! Did the full SART today and not even half as good....

And the best thing is, those of us who have been there KNOW it's not an athletic event! A day in the sun with your fellow Angelenos!! Relax, pedal a little, say hi, and for god's sake...don't stress!
