Looking for group rides around Glendale/Burbank

I'm interested in finding some group rides. I have been riding road for about a year but never done any real groups. I usually ride Griffith Park because it's close to home and work and occasionally ride with 4-5 co workers. I would like to set a goal to do some sort of race in the next year and I figure I should learn how to ride in a pack so I don't kill myself if I ever do.

Any leads?

Saturday mornings is the Montrose Ride and Tues/Thurs nights is the Rose Bowl Ride. These are very fast training rides for those who like to race or those who just like to go really fast. I would heartily recommend learning your group riding skills prior to riding with them. Or, at the very least, stay at the back of the packs.

There are also bicycling clubs throughout the area. PAA in Pasadena/Glendale, SFVBC in the Valley. H&S Bicycles sponsors OTR Racing. There are also many group rides attached to bike shops. Check with individual shops to find details.

Any other recommendations? I live near H&S so I may just join their club. $25/year for 1 ride a month plus some extra events and 15% discount seems like an ok deal.

If you haven't done group rides, you may want to check out San Fernando Valley Bike Club (SFVBC mentioned above). They have a good range of rides and are more tolerant of people new to group riding. Couple of other rides below.

There's a Sunday morning ride that starts in Griffith Park at the small parking lot against the 134 between the Victory blvd offramp and the zoo lot. Rolls between 8 and 8:10 am, takes Victory, Glenoaks, climbs La Tuna and ends up back near the park. Can be a quick ride depending on who shows up.

Barry Wolf ride goes through Burbank/Griffith Park on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I've picked it up on Riverside, near Western around 8:45. It's been pretty fast lately. Here are the details: SoCalCycling.com

Nope, just show up. It's informal, most of the riders have been doing it for years. What usually happens is the older guys roll out 5-10 minutes before the main group goes, rides a little bit slower and gets absorbed somewhere before La Tuna. If you're in the parking lot at 8 ready to ride, you can roll out with either group. The group sort of regroups at the top of La Tuna and there are a couple of sprints that happen through Glendale. I'd recommend staying out of the middle of them until you have a better sense of the group.

And you should check out the H&S shop rides. The rides are no-drop. That's the shop I hang out in and the club rides are fun. I think they are only once a month.
