Between Potrero Road and Port Hueneme, any alternative to the busy roads?

On Saturday my wife and I are cycling from the San Fernando Valley to Port Hueneme. We did a similar ride earlier this year to Ventura and enjoyed it. Basically we followed Ventura Blvd. and the 101 frontage roads to Thousand Oaks Park area, then Potrero Road over the hill and towards the coast.

On the last ride we were happy with the route, except that last section going west through the Oxnard area. The roads were narrow, with a lot of truck traffic.

Our destination is the Holiday Inn Express, near the intersection of E. Hueneme Road and Ventura Road, a block or so from the water. From Potrero Road, E. Hueneme road would be a straight shot all the way to our hotel.

But I wonder if there is some bike path of combination of small roads (and bike path?) that would get us past the Naval Base and up the coast to the Holiday Inn. On Google Maps I see a few small roads (most of them dirt?) in that area, but nothing seems to go through.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I rode Hueneme Rd from highway 1 to Ventura Road less than two weeks ago and it did not look particularly bad to me. However, I was there at 7 AM on a Sunday and it could be worse during midday. I don't think there are any traffic-free alternatives. You could take Santa Rosa to Pleasant Valley instead of Potrero to Hueneme, but Pleasant Valley Road is quite similar to Hueneme Road.

I've also ridden that section, doing so around 7:30 on a Saturday morning. It didn't seem any worse to me than other routes I've taken. Truck traffic from the farms was moderate at that hour.

OK, Hueneme Road it is, and thanks for the replies.

Hueneme is also going to have some truck traffic.. lots of farms (less then when I grew up there) and the Port nearby...
