Cool! It was interesting being interviewed for magazine articles...nice to see the payoffs.
That is indeed on the Zwift island course....17,880 attempts now huh? Shows you we're getting some traffic! Sad that I'm 61st place, but hey, we can't all be winners. I picked a place on the map that was a) near the equator to make math easy, and 2) desolate, so we wouldn't screw up actual real world strava segments.

Of course I thought my pal was on some awesome vacation I should envy, didn't know he was in the basement sweating it out. Good stuff.

I did 9500 miles last year. Should crack 10k miles this year barring any injuries. This is my least favorite time of year to ride (due to the early sunset) but I still try to ride five days a week.

Still doing our local shop ride each Saturday and squeeeeezing in an after work ride during the week, usually about ten miles before it gets dark. I just stay in the neighborhood doing circuits. Was hoping to get in a Rock Store climb today with the group but the rains showed up right as I was leaving the house. Got in 2300 miles in 2014 and aiming for 2500 this year. Trying to decide on some organized events....maybe will do Ojai again as it's local with no out of town costs.

Kinda dropped off the forums about October. Riding has gone down but managed to get in at least one 25+mile ride per week.
In July I was selected for a sponsored group to train for a half marathon. This is the biggest thing that has cut into my cycling.
This run is sponsored by a local hospital, and my group is made up of people who have overcome health crises. I had a heart attack in '09. One of our group received a heart transplant a year ago November. I've been training with one of those groups that block the bike lanes on the coast in Carlsbad. I've tried to modify some of that behavior, but that's an uphill battle. I suspect the Marathon Hamster is running in is the same one, based on the date. this is the training schedule that I have been more or less sticking too. https://www.inmotionfit.com/Assets/14...g.pdf?method=1
The running has seriously cut into the cycling, and now they have offered my group the opportunity to continue the training for the Triple Crown of three local half marathons. My goal is to clear that from the bucket list, then it's back to the bike. The running has been hard on my feet-sesmoiditis.
Hamster-I'll be working the Tri-City Wellness Center booth at the expo on Saturday from ten to noon if you want to introduce yourself when you go for packet pickup.
I'm here. In the middle of a grand experiment called "zero to marathon in 2 months". So far the impression is that I can do it but it will be tight (mileage is below target, so far only up to 9 miles in a single workout). Running is surprisingly hard to mix with cycling. Each long run = at least 72 hours of muscle pain (either quads or hamstrings, it seems to vary) during which cycling is not pleasant. Conversely, I tried to do a 2 hour bike ride followed by a long run next day and I had to cut it short at 5k because of aching hamstrings. I try to do long runs spaced 72 to 96 hours, which means that there's basically no room in there for cycling.
The event is on 1/18, after that, if I don't injure myself running the marathon or preparing for it, I'll switch to a saner schedule. Tour de Palm Springs century is in the plans.

Yeah, it kind of surprises me how much bigger the running events are. I did the local Turkey Trot as my first running event last November. What a zoo. The thing that I learned from that one was that there are a lot of slow people who ignore their paced starts and line up toward the front. I spent the entire 5k dodging strollers and families walking five abreast.
Like I have started doing for cycling events, I plan to get as close to the start as I can. I have the sense to stay to the right and let the faster people pass, and run my own pace, so am not par of a clot. Organised bike rides tend to spread out after a mile or so, so the traffic is manageable.

2014 was a rough year, this year promises more of the same. I'm not whining, my parents are aging & Mom is in serious condition. Son in law is not expected to last out the year. Poor guy, he's only 35. Others have health issues
I'm in near-perfect health myself. Need to be able to get more miles in.

I'm here. Don't post too often, but often lurk here and in the 41. In LA, I usually ride with Adobo Velo, and when visiting my parents in San Diego (once or twice a month) I usually ride with 619 Barkada.

I am here also. Still hurting from my crash in 2011. Started walking 2 miles then bike 2 miles the day after on the 38 pound all chrome free spirit. Started in mid December. This week did 10 miles on the Club Fuji clipped in two days in a row after walking two days. Felt weak but ok still some pain in the hands. Will see how it goes.

Yeah, I've been riding but not as much as before. Decided to diversify my training, so I try to spend more time in the gym and running. Started playing volleyball too, hope it will get back to me after 20+ years break.
Are you going to go really wild and try to organize a bikeforums ride? Maybe GMR? It will be good to go for a ride with you again.

Hey Genaro, you always come up with a good idea how to keep this forum alive. I haven't been visiting here much, saw your thread only now. I guess I should say "happy Chinese new year" because 2015 is not new anymore.

Bummer, hope you feel better! Then I reckon we organize a ride later in spring when we all get fitter.

i still lurk here, but i rarely log in or post because this forum is overmoderated. i'm living in lomita these days and riding pv drive loop a bit. i wanted to say, before the moderators closed the thread, that i am against the helmet bill. i think a helmet has saved my life more than once (i can show you some gruesome scars and xrays,) but i usually ride sans helmet. it's my business, not yours. if you vote for the bill, i hate you and i want to fight you. this last part will probably get moderated and deleted. smell you later

i don't know why I don't seem to spend time here in the So Cal forums; too much time in C&V and Commuting threads I guess. Weather is unreal this week; commuting has been great, and I can't wait to do a little coastal riding this weekend. Heck, I may even make an OCRR ride this weekend!
