However....$100? I know I've been away for a while, but when did rides like this get so freaking expensive?

Almost forgot to update over here...commented in a few threads in the road forum.
It was a great race! Or at least I had one, much better than I expected. Finished around 3:10. Great weather, almost a perfect sized crowd, and awesome support.
I registered back in May, and I know it was less than $100, I think around $50 or 60. The earlier you get in, the cheaper it is

Once you've paid $250 to ride the Whistler Granfondo, the Tour de Scottsdale is a bargain! Don't get me wrong - the Whister GF is a great event and worth the money IMO, but the TdS is a fantastic event and great value for the money! Then again, you can save the money and ride any of these routes any other day of the week / year at no cost - minus the event atmosphere.

A few of my teammates will be there. I enjoyed the group ride - don't kid yourself, this is a group ride not a race - and even finished top 15 last year, but I don't plan to do it again due to cones and cost... The entry fee is that of about 4 crits.

I've never done a crit and have no plans to ever do one, and I don't even know when or where they are if I did. I'd rather ride somewhere, see something when I ride. The thought of riding around in circles makes me feel sick.

I don't know any group rides that have closed roads, cops waving you through, and aid stations. Can you tell me where you're finding these rides?
