Route Database - Google Earth

I'd like to try this with the SW forum, first, and maybe those damn dirty Texans, too. I want to get a list of routes compiled in Google Earth. It's easy enough to use and you can save your routes as "My Places" or some such and then import it into the master file which would be available by download from here.

I wouldn't mind putting the file together and keeping it updated if you folks wouldn't mind plotting a route and emailing it to me.

If this is successful, then maybe it could start incorporating other regions, too. It would be pretty cool to have a national bike route database. Anyone interested?

Tucson Routes

You can grab a link to my KML from this page:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...UTF8&z=12&om=1

These routes are relatively flat, as I've been riding them on a fixed-gear with a friend who rides a single-speed.

Cheers

Cool. Thanks. I'll get the file uploaded to my site tonight, or at least hopefully tomorrow.

By the way, does anyone know the difference between kml and kmz files? Google Earth is saving these as kmz. Also, is it possible to load these files into Google Maps?

A KMZ file is just a zipped KML file. The only way (so far) to load these into Google Maps is they way I did: host them on a website somewhere, then paste the whole URL to the KML file in the Google Maps search field. More details on how to do this here: http://maps.google.com/support/bin/a...136&topic=1475

Thanks again. I guess it pays to read help files. This'll make things a bit easier.

Sure thing. Also, check out these websites where people load their routes:
