Riding up back side of Mt Lemmon

Ridden up the paved side of Mount Lemmon a few times and ran into a guy who had come up the back side, which I understand is mostly unpaved and originates in Oracle. Anyone been up this route and is it ridable on a road bike? I'd start in Oro Valley, refuel at Oracle and then is it up Mount Lemmon Road or some other road? Thanks for your help.

No, it's not ridable on a road bicycle. You could do it on a road motorcycle, but it would be like driving a passenger car off-road for many miles. Not fun....

I like that road on my Honda XR650R.

Doable if you are into x-treme mountain biking/cyclocross.
