So-Cal Teams - Tandems on Metrolink Trains?

We are contemplating a ride from Anaheim to Oceanside with some members of the clyde forum. As we are in north SD county it would make the most sense if we took metrolink from Oceanside to Anaheim then rode back. I searched and see found a couple threads with positive metrolink experience from 2008 but nothing more recent. Does anyone have current positive experience?

I live not far from you (Encinitas).
I have never taken our tandem on the Metrolink but have wanted to so we could have a tailwind the whole ride north to south.
I have taken our tandem on the Coaster which has the same type of cars so I would think it be no problem.
I would just go give it a try, or if you want to make sure drive to the station when a train arrives and ask the conductor.

While I hear it is somewhat conductor dependent, according to the Metrolink agent I spoke to at 800-371-5465 they will allow it so long as there is room. Given that we will be getting on at the 1st northbound stop, I have good feelings .
I will update the post as to how it goes.

We where able to get on the Metrolink with the tandem and where given no grief, as a matter of fact, the conductor was asking questions about riding the tandem . I will say the tandem doe NOT fit within the prescribed spaces on the bike car (too long), we ended up angling it in the corral with the front wheel somewhat in the aisle. We where riding with 8 single bikes so we took ownership of the bike car. If i where to go solo with Tandem I think i would use try the regular cars which I noticed had a longer area available for bikes, but only room for what looked like two.
