Enve classic 65 no more

ENVE no longer makes the classic 65.

Wanted the wheels for our new Calfee to be classic 65's with 28 spokes.

Unforutnately, there are none to be had. They snagged one , but couldn't find another with 28 spokes.

So we're debating 65mm rim with 24 spokes on the front or 45mm with 28 spokes.

Too bad the 65mm 28 spoke rim is no more. It was a great choice for a robust high end tandem wheel

Consider a HED3 for the front? We are a 300 pound team and our front HED3 has over 12,000 miles on it with "0" problems.

that is for the best. Enve 65 rim is way too narrow. Get the zipp 404 rims with 28 holes. Way better! That is what we got for our new calfee tandem that is going to be comlplete next month. You can get it from wheelbuilder.

The difference between the Zipp 404 & Enve 65 is basically 4.8mm which is 0.188 inchs, Zipp prefers you run either a 700x21 or a 700x23 for the most bang for your buck. We use Enve 45/65 set up with 700x23 for races & event rides without any problems as far as speed & handling are concerned, with the assurance that Enve are one on the strongest carbon rim made, without a weight limit which is critical factoring In tandem stresses, team weight & overall bike weight with bottles, road accessories i.e. tools, tubes, etc. So how can you state way better? When you probably don't have real world experiences with either of these wheelsets on a tandem?

The brake track width on the Zipp is 24mm and the max width of the Enve is 22. Whether it is 4.8mm or 2mm it really is not that significant for most actual applications. Can anyone give actual analytical data to prove that in real worl applications you will see any significant performance improvement between the wide rim and the narrower rim?

The width of the break track has nothing to do with what I intend to say, I should've been more specific, I was talking about the clincher bead width difference between the two wheelsets.

I have a HED3 wheel on my TT bike. We'll likely use that, or the Zipp 808 on our current tandem for TT's with the new tandem.
