Thanks.

I think they're going to have trouble with that starting bid of $7450. New V2 frame is $6395, and that build looks fairly mid to low end. I'm betting you could get that new from Paketa for $2000 or so more than the starting bid

No sir. That's a V2r. Starting price for the frameset new = $8800. It's a bargain if you can get it for $7450.

It say V2 in both the listing, and on the badging. Just because they rigged it with same side drive doesn't make it a V2r.

Also, something's a little fishy about the provenance of the bike. It's an odd mix of components.

Like they somehow came upon the frame, and just threw together parts. I'd want to know history, and look carefully at it for corrosion, and damage.

Odd it isn't badged or being sold as a V2r, but the photos do show the proprietary "r" chainstay yoke present on V2r frames.

A shame it has such a outdated drivetrain.

Frames are like cars, components are like clothes. Either way, hardly anyone wants the smell of the previous owner.

Ya think??? I'd want to get a serial number and check with the good folks at Paketa on this one, just to see if there's a back story. But, yes, it definitely has the right rear bottom bracket for the V2R.

"Tandem V2 bike Paketa with transfer belt drive located on rt side, both derailleus, brakeand shifter shimano dura-ace,sandles Fizi`z aleante, seatport, sterm handlebar carbon, pedal keo carbon and cranksets fron FSA,rear shimano 105.Tandem bike was buy 2011 only frame and transfer belt drive ,the other component were bought other storeThe wheel model Velocity rim and hub aluminum 32 spoke from and rear, the wheel had zipp stiker. The tandem tube seat 54/44,my height 5.9 my wife 5.2,rear space 135mm."

Regardless what the stickers say, it's a V2r frame. It has the yoke-style chain stay BB cluster and the belt pulley clearance divots capped into the boom tube. And yes, it is "just because" it has an inboard drive-side belt - that would be impossible without the two design features mentioned in the previous sentence.

My guess is that it could possibly be a Precision Tandems or other re-seller's build (House of Tandems Texas?), certainly not built by JP @ Paketa. I have no experience with PT or HOTT other than what I've seen on their web sites.

Same with any bike for sale, no? The seller certainly doesn't appear to have English as their first language. It's hard to make much sense of the listing in general and build explanation: "Tandem bike was buy 2011 only frame and transfer belt drive ,the other component were bought other store".

It is an odd bird for sure, but a steal if it's legit. Or, it could be a steal, as in stolen.

You obviously know more about Paketas, so I don't doubt your conclusion that it's VR2.

However, the fact that it's not marketed as such adds a red flag.

+1 on getting a serial number and calling Paketa if you're looking at this bike.

The componentry is not worth much and may well not be the quality and/or type the buyer would want. You are then left with paying close to new price for a second hand frame.

Assuming the frame hasn't developed a case of sub-dermal acne and is otherwise in very good shape, $6k would be top dollar... but the buyer would need to be someone looking for a VR2 on a budget. The build is a BA kit for a high-end frame, i.e., Begin Again.

Did Paketa make a V2R with a 135mm dropout?

Buyers can typically specify anything from 130 to 145; depends on how they will be using the bike and other considerations such as the ability to move aero wheels for time trials between bikes, etc.
