Need back wheel for trek t200 tandem
Can anyone suggest a back wheel for a trek t200 tandem. The wheel that came on the bike is a 700c matrix titan tour heat treated. 700c x25. 7 speed. We are new to tandem cycling and don't know where to look. I am assuming we need a heavy duty wheel designed for the weight of two riders 400lbs..

It looks like the spokes and hub are still good. Any suggestions where to buy a rim? We are excited to get back on the road. Anyone with a used or new complete 7 speed rim? I'm located in northern California. Thank you .

if the hub is still in good shape, you can reuse it. You don't want to reuse the spokes.
How many spokes are there in the current wheel?
Velocity ( Velocity Wheels - Hand Made in USA) makes a number of reasonably priced tandem rims available in various spoke counts, that would be appropriate.
But you still need someone to rebuild the wheel, so I'd suggest going to your LBS, asking them to look at the hub. If they think it's in good shape, ask them to order an appropriate rim and spokes, and rebuild the wheel for you

And the rim isn't specific to 7,8,9, 10, or 11 speed.
Its the hub that needs to be compatible with a 7 speed cassette and the right drop out spacing for the bike.
I believe, but you should verify, the drop out spacing is 140mm, so if you get a new wheel, you need a hub for 140mm dropout spacing and 7 speed compatible ( unless you want to change other things on the bike.)
Tandems East would be one resource for Tndem rim, or a whole new rear wheel or wheelset

The machined side walls are for use with caliper brakes. Non machined are for disc brakes.

Machined sidewalls are intended for use with rim brakes, but rim brakes can be used with non-machined rims, generally. There are some rims whose shape precludes the use of rim brakes.
The wheels that Velocity built up for us with the Velocity-branded hubs we sent them have been great. Atlas rims (with machined sidewalls). Cost-effective to reuse a hub.

Velocity Dyad with machined sidewalls is a perfect rim for that bike. If the front wheel is original, too, its rim might be due for replacement. I'd recommend Sapim Strong, Sapim Force, or DT Swiss Alpine III spokes for a long-lasting build.

@Fearlynch where in Northern California?
The Trek T50/T100/T200 used the same frame. Our T50 currently is set up as a 3x9 with Wheelmaster 48H hubs (the rear is a 135mm with 4mm total of spacers), Velocity NoBS rims and Wheelsmith DB14 spokes. Previously it had Wheelmaster 40H hubs (the rear is a 135mm with 4mm total of spacers), Velocity Dyad rims and Wheelsmith SS14 spokes. We are a much heavier team than you. The 3x9 and the Dyads came about after failure of the original Titan Matrix rims. The Dyad are currently on my commuter single; front spokes replaced with Wheelsmith DB15, rear no change from the original build.
For your situation, I'd rebuild with your hub (refresh the axle bearings and clean & lube the freehub), Dyad rim (non machined), Wheelsmith DB14 spokes and nickel plated brass nipples, Velocity Veloplugs (red). While things were apart, I'd replace the cassette and chain (KMC X8.93) - no extra labor and $40- in parts is a no brainer in my mind.
The T50 came with Sansin hubs with a Suntour 7 speed cassette on the back. I could not get the cassette off, took it to my favorite shop, and the BROKE two chain whips trying to remove it.....Gave up on that wheel, and gave it to a friend who knows someone who collects bicycle oddities.
I have a Handspun rear wheel, it is brand new, never had a cassette on the hub, Q/R never installed, etc. It has a Shimano HF08 40h hub (145mm, but easy to change to 140mm; I'd change it if you wanted me to), DT Swiss 2.0 spokes and a Velocity Dyad rim. It has a few dust bunnies, but that is it. The wheel was built by Matt according to the tag attached to the wheel. I've had the wheel for more than 5 years, and would sell it if you (or anyone else) wanted it.

Those poor old original rims - our rear fell apart too.
We went with a Dyad, 40h with machined rims and new spokes.
I re-spaced & re-dished the rear wheel and swapped the freehub body. It is now set up as a 10sp with Shimano bar-end shifters. Shifts great and for the same range we have smaller jumps between gears, important here in Perth where it is mostly flatish.
Tektro brakes levers with Shimano XT v-brakes and Swisstop pads. Stops extremely well for a non-disc bike.
