Shopping for a tandem--1st time!
So after deciding that my fiancee is better suited to road than mountain riding and knowing that we have two very different levels of cycling experience, we've decided to shop for a tandem!
I'm quite familiar with single road bikes, their components, etc., but I'm still not well-versed with the tandem. So here are the questions. Bear in mind that I weigh 195 and my fiance weighs about 150, so total team weight will be about 350#.
1. Aluminum or Cromoly? I've had some bad experiences with lighter cromoly singles in terms of frame flex, etc., and kind of assumed that AL might be a better choice for us.
2. Is it worth it to spend the extra $$ to buy a tandem from a tandem-specific manufacturer, like Co-Motion, Santana, etc?
3. What kind of wheels might be suited to long road tours for the aforementioned 350# team?
4. Any good books/videos/DVDs out there that might give some good instruction on riding/mounting/dismounting technique?
Thanks for the help, all!
