Disc Brake Retrofit?

I bought an older model (90) Burley Tandem about three weeks ago.
Since then I bought a rear wheel, replacing the 6 speed Suzue - drum brake, with a Mavic/Edco - Shimano freewheel. It has holes for a disc brake, but obviously the frame does not have the correct mounting capability for the brake.

Is there a retrofit solution for these older bikes to get to a disc brake?

My 5 year old and I are currently the only riders, and we won't be heading into the hills anytime soon, so I'm not terribly concerned that I don't have the drum brake, but it might be nice to get a good brake solution in place at some point.

Raedeke, www.precisiontandem.com may have the solution you are looking for. A very extensive website that I have found. They are quick to respond if you e-mail them with a question. Hope this info helps?

We have ridden the bike for over a year now without the rear drum and no other work on the disc. The rear spacing on the frame barely accepts the new wheel and it was very clear when I took a harder look at it, that I would not be able to install a disc on this wheel and have it fit the bike.

Frankly the bike is a bit too small for me - although it's been fine to ride with my daughter who is only about 40" tall. But I am going to be looking for a L/S bike next spring and sell the Burley.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
