This is an unspeakable tragedy. Our hearts go out to both families, and all the riders who shared in this terrible experience.
We've only participated in one MS ride, and we thought the event was very well supported and we felt very safe through all parts of our ride.

Having been hit by an inattentive driver in a pickup truck at about 45 mph from the rear while on our tandem, we can feel the pain, literally, of this family. Yes, driver was ticketed and his restricted driver's license was revoked and we survived the hit.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family.

It would've been better if the article had been more informative about what actually happened.
My condolences to the family. Way too many bicycles tragedies lately.

"The road where Giblin was killed was just two lanes wide, and riders say there's little room for error by anyone.
"Sometimes cars would come by and almost blow you off," said Bill Robinson, a fellow rider.
South Carolina troopers haven't decided whether to charge the driver, but they say Giblin and her family were riding correctly – in a single-file line."
Typical, cyclist is obeying the rules of the road, gets killed by a motorist, authorities indecisive.

FWIW: This appears to be your typical, southern two lane rural state road (still photo below) where there are a couple feet of road shoulder past the fog line. The pick-up truck was a quad-cab dually pulling an empty, tandem-axle heavy equipment trailer (as wide as or wider than the dually).

I find it telling that two bikes, apparently traveling in single file, were hit. That pretty much rules out error on the part of one of the cyclists.
